Confused and looking for advice!
I have PCOS and painful periods, I have for nearly 6 years now.
The BC pill has managed my periods and hormones, until I get to the placebo week. My periods are light but still pretty painful. I can deal with that.
But the entire week I lose my mind because of the PCOS. Severe panic attacks, severe mood swings, dizziness, all the symptoms I thought I didn't have. Three months ago, I had 2-3 panic attacks a day. Last month, I completely snapped (sobbing, panic attacks, and so on for the whole week!), this month it got so bad I had to restart the pill early.
Before I started the pill this was an all the time thing because of the PCOS. I was anxious and depressed every day to the extreme. So it's a huge improvement, it's just ruining my life still!! I can't function if I'm afraid of everything and crying all the time.
However, the two doctors I have spoken to don't want to let me skip my placebo week. They don't want me to mess up my uterus and not shed the lining. Someone I am close to advised me there were two options, hysterectomy to avoid periods so I can just take BC or skipping the placebo week anyway. None of the doctors have been giving me options. I don't know how any of this works. I am very confused if hysterectomy is even an option for this. I have read so many articles that say hysterectomy is an option, then someone saying just to take my pills constantly instead. And no help from doctors.
Yes, I am young at 19, but I have another medical condition that prevents me from pregnancy, not infertile just that I'd have too great a risk of bad effects...so I'm not worried about that. I'm just wondering if anyone has faced this before and has some advice?

Re: Confused and looking for advice!
Are you sure it is PCOS? Sounds like you might have PMDD too. I have PCOS and never had the mood swings like you. My DIL has PMDD and has the moods just like you. Antidepressants and BC did not work for her. From a PMDD board she found out about Chasteberry or Chaste Tree. It has been the saving grace for her. She ran out one month and was so bad with her emotions she almost wound up in jail.

Re: Confused and looking for advice!
I am sure it is PCOS, they didn't think it was PMDD because my moods were off all the time (not just premenstrual) and my hormone levels were terrible.
I've never heard of chasteberry, but I am on SSRI and hormonal BC which are helping for the most part. If I miss either during the month it really messes things up, but otherwise I am fine. It's just when I get to the placebo week...all hell breaks loose.

Re: Confused and looking for advice!
I have been living with PCOS for 20+ years. You are struggling with more than PCOS. Find a reproductive endocrinologist asap and that should help you tremendously in the figuring out part and treating part. You can take your meds through the off week and eventually, about every 3 or 4 months, you go off for one week. that is just one of many ways to deal with it. As for the moodiness, heck, there are so very many different meds to try and work with. A psychiatrist that is well respected will work with a repro. endocrinologist to get you feeling wayyyyy better. Good luck!!
