Scared to Stop Taking the Premarin

I kept my ovaries but have had to start taking Premarin 0.265 about week 5 because the ovaries obviously hadn't started kicking back in yet.

Week 6, my GP, suspecting that I wasn't absorbing the pill form, gave me a shot of estrogen/B12. Doubled my Lexapro and adjusted my dosage of Xanax. The blues were just relentless prior to that. She wants to see me again in two weeks from that shot.

I have two more weeks of Premarin left. My GYN expects me to stop after that and see if the ovaries are working. He says I will know if they DON"T start kicking in again. Not to be mean, because I really respect him as a doctor, but he is a man and although he has that degree, he has really no idea how devastating those feelings can be and how we really suffer when hormones are out of whack. They are so finely tuned and easily thrown off.

I'm just so scared to "go there" again with the blues. I have to function and work and pay bills. I know I am worrying in advance but its a real fear that I am having and its causing me a lot of anxiety.

Kathy,
I understand your fear of getting off hormones. I had to get off them too due to the patch causing my blood pressure to rise. I had depression with 2 of my children and that is the darkest most lonely place that noone seems to understand except those who have been there. With my 2nd child it was 7 weeks before I got on medication. I did not want to admit that I was depressed. (and I am a therapist, so I should have known) With my 3rd child I got on medication much quicker b/c I knew what to look for. My doctor did say that she would put me on an oral hormones if I have hot flashes, insomnia or depression. So, that makes me feel better about not being on hormones. Just to know that medication is a phone call away.

Does it make you feel better that you know you can get back on hormones if you need to?
You could also advocate for yourself and ask to stay on hormones a little longer to give your ovaries a little longer to wake up. What would be the harm in staying on hormones a little longer? Do you think your doctor would be open to this?

I will be thinking of you!!!! Good Luck!!!!!!
