Upcoming hysterectomy: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

I am wondering how long it usually takes to recover from DaVinci surgery to the point where I can carry 20 pounds (my cello case) and not worry about stirring up internal issues?

Re: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

I think it depends on if you're having your cervix removed or not - and even then, every doctor is different. My dr. said I can carry 30 lbs at 4 weeks (barring no complications). I asked because we're going on vacation and I'll need to help with luggage. I'm having my cervix removed (I'll have a vaginal cuff).

Re: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

In my case I was told to lift no more than 10lbs for six weeks. I had to always be asking myself- is this more than 10lbs. Once you start to feel better it is easy to forget you are still healing. Perhaps your surgeon will have a different weight restriction. Good luck on your journey.

I wasn't supposed to lift more than 10 lbs, but that was upped to 30 at my 2 week post op

Nothing more than a spoon to my mouth for 2 weeks, then 10 lbs 2 weeks, then 20 until cleared (about 2 more weeks!)

Re: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

My DTVH was on Aug 18th and I am great now. 20 lbs was my restriction. I picked up my 18 lb. Shih Tzu beginning week 2 and I paid for it the next 1 to 1.5 weeks on my left side. VERY DUMB!!!!! With that said, I was quite easily carrying her week 4.

My motto became; if it hurts STOP immediately. Worked for me. Good luck!

Re: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

I have no more than 20 pounds for 6 weeks, but I tend to form adhesions so I have a lower one than I would have otherwise.

10 lbs for 6 weeks. I can tell you, when you lift anything after surgery, even2 lbs, it feels like 10 lbs. so strange. I had to change purses as I couldn't lift it. Now, I use it and it doesn't feel heavy..

Re: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

Reading all the posts, you can really see that each doctor varies in their restrictions. Mine was no more than 5 for 6 weeks. Besides the type of surgery you had, it will vary with your over all health and all that your doc had to do. I had dvTH/BSO plus repairs -- thus the lower weight restriction.

Re: Upcoming hysterectomy: Thinking ahead, what lifting restrictions does your doctor have post op?

I had a TAH and was told not to lift more than 10 lbs. At my four week post-op exam, that was raised to 30 lbs, and then the restrictions were lifted entirely at six weeks.

Wishing you'd taken up ukelele instead?
