vacation 8 weeks after hysterectomy?

Hi ALL
I am new to the board and am going to be scheduling my hsterectomy due to fibroids. I am 38 yrs old and I recently had a biopsy and am waiting the results. (knock on wood should be ok). We have a vacation planned in the florida keys the week of may 21st so I will be swimming alot and I was wondering if I should try and schedule the Hysterectomy after vacation or is 8 weeks enough time that I will feel good enough to swim,snorkle and fully enjoy vacation.

of course as we hear all the time, everyone is different and your readiness for your holiday will depend on your recovery, which will be different to everyone

Having said that at 5 1/2 weeks post op I flew for 2 hrs and enjoyed a ten day trip. Mind you I didnt DO a lot, but I did swim (gently) each day and do lots of lying around in the sun drinking cocktails that my big brother so lovingly provided lol...gee it was tough!!!

I'm not sure about snorkling, best to check with your doctor, but I am sure if you have an 'routine' recovery that by 8 weeks you will be well and truly ready and able for a holiday!!!

I am 9 weeks tomorrow. I am going to Mexico at 12 weeks. I think you could go as long as you don't overdo it-like lifting heavy suitcases. Swimming should be no problem but ask the doctor! If it were me going right now with the family then I would say 'which way to the airport?!' in a second! You should be doing well enough by 8 weeks! I am going to Mexico on my own, leaving the kids with DH and enjoying the sun!

I flew from Phoenix to Jacksonville when I was 5 weeks post-op---by myself. I carried my own luggage and had 1 connnection on the way there and 2 on the way back. While I was there I helped a friend clean house, cooked a meal or two, and was proud to be the Godmother and my new Goddaughter's baptism. So, I think if you listen to your body and don't overdo you'll be just fine.
