Doctor gave me the news today

I am 49 yrs old went for my annual exam several weeks ago and lo and behold he found a problem. He found a mass on the upper left of my uterus, but the ultrasound and CT scan could not pinpoint whether it was a fibroid or an ovary problem. Today he explained everything but wasn't happy that he could not get a clear indication of the problem. He visited with another radiologist and between the two of them examining all the tests they determined that it was a large fibroid on one side and another small on the other. The final determination was a hysterectomy within the next 2-3 weeks. I am scared to death, but know it has to be done. I have experienced none of the pain I've read about with the others. I feel confident with this doctor, he is very thorough and even told us today that if the CA125 blood test comes back high he will bring in an OB/GYN oncologist as a backup in case he finds any surprises. It's going to be a long couple of weeks, but I do feel better knowing the outcome of the tests. This is a great site and I will visit regularly. Thank you for the site - it does help !!

Doctor gave me the news today

Hi There!

Welcome to Hystersisters!

Your story sounds alot like mine.

I had no symptoms (that I paid attention to anyway) and at my annual well woman exam was discovered a large mass engulfing my right ovary that startled my DR and I was in surgery a couple of weeks later!

Everything turned out just fine with my surgery; believe me, this site helped me get there. I found out so much here, about how others' experiences were (Princesses tell their Hyst-Stories forum), what to bring with me to the castle and what to have prepared for my return home for recovery (Home page - pull-down menus under Ladies In Waiting).

Please keep reading, keep posting as you have any concerns or questions about others' experiences, and hang in there, sweetie, because you are certainly not alone.

Hi, Delabar -

Glad you have confidence in your doctor - that's really important. Also glad you aren't having pain, and won't have a really long wait (though any wait seems endless!)

I do want to let you know that the CA125 test is NOT a decisive indicator of cancer - there are other things that can cause a high CA125 (like fibroids), so if it's high, don't panic. However, it's nice that if it is, they'll have an oncologist available for backup.

If you've been reading this site, you know that being scared is very normal - Hang on, keep reading, and ask all the questions you want! We're all here to help.
