I need to make a decision!!!

I need to ake a decision about my ovaries. I know that the is going to remove the left ovary for sure...however, he has left it up to me wether to remove the right ovary even if it is healthy.
1) I can see removing it if it is healthy because I do not want to have to have any other surgeries to remove it later if it quits working
2) I'm only 24 & do not know if I want to be on hormones for the next 20 - 25 years

I am leaning towards removing it whether it is healthy or not, however, my & DH think that if it is health...just leave it in!? I'm I wanted some advice from some people who have been in the same position that I am.

I found out today that they are removing everything (except one ovary?) and my appendix.

The says that my uterus is severly tipped & he may not be able to get it out vaginally.

Please, I would love advice from anyone

Happy Holidays

I need to make a decision!!!

Hi There!

Yes, this is a big decision - and you are so right to do all the research you can in order to determine what is best for you. If I were your age, I would keep the other ovary as long as it is healthy and of no detriment.

I hope you know that, if you keep the ovary and years later it does follow the natural progression and stop functioning, it doesn't mean it will then have to be removed.

I tend to agree with your DR and you DH. Just my opinion.

Best of luck to you with this very important decision; I know you will make the choice that is best for you.

I need to make a decision!!!

Hi Endo! I would have to agree with your doc and dh also mainly because of your age. Surgical menopause is a lot rougher than regular menopause and you would get quite a few years out of this ovary.

Best wishes in making your decision!

I need to make a decision!!!

I had to make the same decision, but I opted to take out the ovary. HOWEVER!!!!!! I WAS NEARLY 53 and had already gone through most of menopause! BIG DIFFERENCE. If you can, I'd leave in the ovary. My sister did (at age 34) and avoided hormones for 20 years.

My uterus was severely tipped and they had no problem removing it vaginally.

I'm so sorry,

To be such a tender age and having to worry about so much. I'm glad you have a DH to help you through everything. Personaly if the ovary is still good I myself would keep it. You might want to read some of the post in the hormone jungle. It may give you a good idea what the ladies go through without ovaries. No one can promise you anything about that one ovary. It could continue to work for several years, which would make menapause a long way off. Or it could stop working after surgery. But please read everything you can on here. If you don't know how to search other threads and posts just ask. I have gone back and read things form several months ago just by using the search on the top of the page. I wish you the best of luck and the ability to make the right decision for you.
God Bless
Sue
