Food intolerances?

Wondering if anyone is having issues tolerating certain foods. My appetite has been very low since surgery. When I do eat, I seem to have more pain in the upper abdomen, like gas. I did expect this from surgery, but today was a bit different.

I made some oatmeal,, a common breakfast for me, but found it completely not edible. Turned my stomach and I was unable to eat it. Not much unlike the many moons ago when I was pregnant. Yesterday I was able to eat eggs so I went back into the kitchen and made some eggs. Those were fine, so I have to say the oatmeal was the cause?

Anyone else not able to eat their "normal" foods? Trying to find my balanced diet again and it is not very balanced on eggs, toast and citrus!

Re: Food intolerances?

Absolutely. You are very new post op and these changes are normal. The only thing I could stomach in the first couple of weeks post op were chicken salad and banana pudding. Just try your best to drink a lot of water and eat what you can right now in small amounts. It will all balance out and you will get your appetite back. I am almost five months post op, and my digestive system has changed too. I used to be on the constipated side pre op, but now I am quite loose. This major surgery does change a lot to our bodies; hopefully for the best.

Re: Food intolerances?

For about a month afterwards, I was almost entirely unable to eat anything sweet except for a daily cup of warm apple cider into which I mixed my Miralax. I was almost incapable of sweets for about the first two weeks, then could gradually manage them (although I didn't try that hard), and now I'm back to normal -- able to look forward to the occasional piece of candy or bowl of ice cream and enjoy it.

But initially, I felt like my body was telling me that I had to heal and should go shoot something, skin it, and eat it. And not that much of it at that.
