J-P drain/swelly belly question

I had a TAH on 1/29 and had to go back into the OR for internal bleeding on 1/30 where they inserted a Jackson-Pratt Drain (J-P drain). Has anyone else had a J-P drain put in after a TAH? I'm surious but don't think that I've experienced the "swelly belly" in the same way that others have... maybe because of the drain? Would love to hear others' thoughts...

Re: J-P drain/swelly belly question

First of all Alison, it's nice to meet you and welcome to the other side!
I am not familiar with a J-P drain or it's purpose, this is the first time that I am hearing about one. Perhaps other sisters can comment on their experience and whether they had "swelly belly" or not with the use of one. I am not entirely sure of what swelly belly is, just thought it was the tummy's reaction to all the healing that is going on after having a hysterectomy done. I have gained some weight since my surgery so it's hard to tell if what I see is the extra weight or some swelly belly going on, lol
Take care

Re: J-P drain/swelly belly question

Thanks so much for your reply.... I have been checking my weight each day since coming home and have dropped all of my surgery weight over the past week (194 on Mobday to 171 this morning, 8 days later) even while eating and napping. Hope you're feeling better soon... And hope someone has had experience with this drain so I'm not the only one!
