Private Room Charges in Canada??

I am going to request a private room and I was wondering what the girls in Canada paid. I phoned the Castle to find out but they refused to tell me. They said I would be told at my pre-op. I would like to get just a ballpark figure!

I requested semi-private (vs. a ward) and paid $70 a night over and above what my insurance paid - I think it was a total difference of about $150 per night. I was not happy to be paying that, so I didn't even ask about the private room.

Hi there. I paid $200 for a semi-private room for one night. I believe a private room at the hospital I was in was $300.

at <Oops! Hospital name removed for your privacy and safety> where I work and will have my surgery the fees are:
Ward - covered by OHIP
Semi - $195.00 / night
Private - $230.00/night

Because I work there we have a program called TLC; my insurance covers a semi private rm, so if I want to upgrade to a private rm, I would only pay the difference, which will be $40.00 / night.

The big thing is that you can only make a REQUEST for a private rm, and if one is available on the day of your surgery then you can have it. Otherwise you get what they have available, and when one becomes available during your stay, they will move you over.

I wish the rule of just requesting was not true. I do have semi-private coverage so that might help with the expense of up-grading to a private. Good luck and speed recovery to you all!

I too hate the idea of requesting the private room and not getting it. My supplemental coverage will pay for the semi-private and I want to "upgrade" since the thought of having a roommate after this surgery just isnt' appealing.
