I don't have pain all the time and it's not every month so I don't think a hysterectomy is what I want to do right now. PLUS I don't like the idea of my abdominal muscles being cut and having to rebuild them. I need some wise advise. Anyone have any?

Polka,
They do not cut your abdominal muscles with a hysterectomy, they pull them apart as they do naturally when a woman is pregnant.
Personally I am very glad to hve had the surgery, I feel 1000x's better already.

Hi Polkadancer,

Possibly you are a candidate for an alternate method to a hyst?? I can suggest you check out the Hysterectomy Options board since you mentioned endo in a reply on another thread. There are generally threads running on endo. Here is a link:

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/for...p?s=&forumid=4

Possibly you are a candidate for a less invasvie surgery such a laparoscopic hyst?? A LAVH and a LSH are two types. Here is a Hyster Sisters link that goes over the different types of hysts. Just scroll down:

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsa...p?s=&id=152317

You might want to check out this endo forum area on Hyster Sisters:

Best wishes. We Hyster Sisters are here to help you with your questions. I remember all the decisions and it can be overwhelming sometimes.

thank you

I am very thankful for everything you've told me. My dr. had told me that the abdominal muscles are vertical and they separate them. So when they cut you, they cut your tissue and not your muscles, right? When they do a c-section do they cut the muscles then?

They don't cut your stomach muscles with either a c-section or a hysterectomy. (I was under that impression, too.)

Have you checked out our Options and Alternatives message board? It's found here: Hysterectomy Options and Alternatives

You'll get lots of great support from ladies who are struggling with the very same issues you are right now.

I wish I could say that having a hysterectomy was all about doing what you "want", but of course you and I both know it isn't. Without knowing more about your history, I'm glad to hear that you aren't rushing into the decision to have surgery. Unless you have an emergency, there's plenty of time to decide on a course of action, which may or may not include hysterectomy!

Best wishes to you -- and we're here for you, no matter what you and your doctors decide.

You don't say why you need the hysterectomy but I'm guessing fibroids or endometriosis? I had fibroids and at first didn't have pain, just lots of bleeding. I wish I had done the surgery early on before the pain and pressure and constant peeing started. My fibroids just kept growing and made my life miserable. It just doesn't ever get better unless you can make it to menopause. Had I known how miserable I was going to be I would have had the surgery early on.

That's my opinion, and I know it's hard to go for surgery when you don't feel that bad. The only thing I can tell you is to learn everything you can about your condition.

my hysterectomy is scheduled due to endometriosis and a tilted uterus. LIke I said before I don't have pain expect for maybe 2 or 3 months each year and even at that it only lasts for 1 day a month. I"ve had 3 laperoscopies for the endometriosis and concerned that it may turn into cancer. One of the laps. I had a nerve clipped to keep me from feeling the cramping. I think I"m going to take my time and get a few other opinions. I'm a teacher so I'll be able to handle the pain until next summer, I hope. Then if need be I'll have the surgery. My periods are regular and not extremely heavy.

pain is not always an indicator. I was never in pain I just bled all the time. you mentioned the possibility of cancer, so if I were you I would do some research and talk to your DR. Get a second opinion and weigh all your alternatives. I waited almost 9 years. This surgery is not something you should do until you are satisfied it is your best course of action. Good luck, and keep asking questions around here someone always has a good suggestion, or reference or just an ear to bend.
