No Date: Medical clearance before hysterectomy?

Do most doctors require medical clearance from PCP before doing DaVinci hysterectomy?

I expect that it would depend on your healthcare system. It might also depend on whether or not you've got any special health conditions.

My doctor did not require clearance from my PCP. However, I *was* required to have an EKG and a chest x-ray and to provide blood and urine samples a couple of weeks before surgery, to check for any issues that might cause complications during surgery.

My insurance company didn't require a referral however when my troubles started, it was my PCP who referred me for tests and ultimately the surgeon who did my hysterectomy. But that didn't play into the approval process. I would call your insurance company and ask. No doubt they will want to see medical records that support your need for surgery and that usually comes from the diagnosing doctor or performing surgeon. Good luck!

My phone is part of the same healthcare system as my gyn, so don't know if they did it internally or didn't require it. All of my pre op testing was done when I was being prepped for surgery.
