adhesions ..found new info

Hi,

Saw the doctor last week...we were talking about surgery on Dec. 1. I asked if she could use a barrier...mesh or liquid, to prevent adhesions. She said NO!

Seems, in her opinion, that in order to help prevent adhesions the field has to be DRY. A hysterectomy (TAH) is too wet...(bloody). If one was having surgery on the colon then the surgeon could treat the area because it is considered DRY.

I was hoping to avoid some adhesion trouble by using the products I had read about. Anyway....just thought I'd pass along what I found out. Would be interesting to see what other doctor's think about the use of mesh or liquid in our WET area.

I quickly did a search of the HS Resource Library, and found several articles that seem to indicate that using an adhesion barrier is recommended with abdominal hysterectomies.

Exactly! I will bring it up to her one more time. Thanks so much for the information that I'll print and take with me. I had done that research a few years back and it was in my notes. When she said "No," I thought during the last few years perhaps they found out that it was not succesfull, so I let it go.
