Would losing weight help with belly?

I'll be 9 weeks post-op tomorrow. I'm 4'8" and weight about 104 lbs (which is the weight I was before surgery). When I get up in the morning I actually appear smaller than I was before surgery, but as the day goes on my belly gets huge. I can't wear any of my pre-surgery clothes. I know this is what is called swelly belly, but at the same time I feel huge when the swelling starts. I can start out in one pair of stretchy shorts and then by the afternoon, I'm digging out the sundresses. So.......would going on a strict diet and trying to go down maybe 10 lbs or so help with this, or would it just make my belly look even bigger? I'm not skinny by any means. I have some fluff, even before, but at the same time, I know when I lose down to 93 lbs I end up sick and my blood counts go wacky. What's a girl to do?

Re: Would losing weight help with belly?

What helped mine the most was a binder for most of the day and drinking a lot of water. Also, i used a heating pad when I would rest.
I am ten weeks now and it is rarely as bad as it was just last week.
The mild exercise and diet is fine, but dont do anything radical!

The swelling will go down when your body stops producing inflammation. There is really not a whole lot that you can do about it. Here is our article on Swelly Belly.

Re: Would losing weight help with belly?

Thanks ladies. After reading the article, I think maybe I need to lay off staying on my feet so much. I have a bad habit of being up and moving constantly. I can't sit still. I have arthritis too and my joints have been so swollen lately. I blame part of that on this heat and humidity we're having lately. I guess in the end, I'm still in need of a little patience.
