I'm going to try a new thread in hopes to find an answer. I've been pre-diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia. I'm going in for a D&C next week. My lining measured 13mm last month and now 15+. Should I be concerned?? My Dr. does not seem to be too concerned. Said that she was 99% sure that is was not cancer. I've had 2 ultrasounds. I had a cyst previously on my last overy and it was gone today. Relief. My uterus is a little enlarged. My monthly periods if you can call them that, have ranged from light to heavy. I have a strong family history of breast cancer and uterine cancer. I'm only 45 and really need to find someone who has gone through this. I have spent the last 5 years on Tomoxfin and that can cause uteine cancer so...now I'm concerned. Thanks for listening.

Thanks.. I sure would love to hear from others with some info. My family has been stricken with cancer and I am personally tired of it. My Mom was diagonised with breast cancer at 41..unterine cancer @53 , grandmother (paternal 61). I have no other female relative...no sisters...no aunts...no other female counterparts...no connections!! so what do I do?????? I've done what I can do besides, profalactic surgeries. I've seen an oncologisist for genetic counsecling (thus the tomxifin trial). What fun this is. My mom passed away at he prime age of 57. Way too young. Come on guys... someone out there has to be in the same boat. I hate this but am more than willing to accept the outcome. Please feel free to e-mail me to. I'd love to hear from you all. Us women have way too many problems.

debst,

You posted that you have been diagnosed with endometrial hyperplasia, but you didn't say if it was simple or complex or with or without atypia...How was it diagnosed, simply from the ultrasound? Your doctor will get a pathology result from the D & C and it will state specifically what type of hyperplasia that you have.

Waiting for the pathology is the hardest part. Treatment options depend on the type of hyperplasia that you have.

I was diagnosed with complex hyperplasia w/atypia last June. I had two second opinions and was basically given these options: hysterectomy or treatment with progesterone. I opted for the progesterone while I researched more about the hyperplasia. Took progesterone for 9 months and the hyperplasia resolved itself. Still opted to have the SAH due to risk of endometrial cancer, and side effects from progesterone.

The only risk factor that I had was not having children. I have excellent health and am a healthy weight. (Gained 15 pounds on the progesterone, and all lost quickly after I stopped taking it.)

You may also want to post in cancer concerns. A lot of women there have had hyperplasia and/or endometrial cancer.

Wishing you good pathology results from the D & C.

To answer your question... I haven't actually been diagnosed with hyperplasia but my Dr. is pretty sure that is what it is due to my ultrasound. I am still premenopausal so who knows. I know that depending on where I am in my cycle my lining will be thicker on the ultrasound. Her concern is the tomoxifen trial I was on for the past 5 years (ending last Nov) and the thicker than norma lining. My periods have been heavier with larger clots (nothing like what has been described on this site.) I just rememeber my mothers history. I seem to be following in her past. d&C's, heavier bleeding closer to menopause. the only difference is she had fibroids. Hence, the heavy bleeding and eventually the scarcoma (Possible due to the firboids) My Dr. said if this issue was anything to be concerned about it wouldb be in early stages. This is so scary and I'm trying not to let it bother me. I really don't have a lot of down time so that is good. Next week will be rough. My Dr. told me that by next Fri. she will have the result of the D&C. I have the D&C on Tuesday. She is so god about getting results back right away. I really like her. Shes a great Dr. Thanks for all of your thoughts.

Hi Debst,
Given you response to Scout's queries, you need to await the results of the D&C path report. Regrettably , waiting for tests and results always is so difficult; you have one very considerate gyn if she gets results back that quickly.
I can understand your concern re cancer given your family history and the tamoxifin but those odds of a 99% chance it is not-cancer given by your gyn certainly seem extremely promising. Here's hoping all indeed turns out well and your gyn was correct.
Pls let us know how things go.

Hi all...yes I am very lucky to have such a consideraite GYN. Last time I had an issue 6yrs ago I had my right overy reomoved because of what looked like an abnormal cyst and she actually postponed her vacation a day to do the procedure...Her nurse tod me this and made sure I knew she did it as a favor to me to ease my mind..unbelievable huh? With this test coming up I told here I was heading out of town on business the following week and she said to call her on Fri and if she hasn't gotten the results SHE WILL get them. I trust her opinion 100%. I think If I'm diaganosed with hyperplasia she wants to put my on some form of progesterone. Anyone been on this?? I'll let you all know of the outcome. I've not been too concerned about this but do think about it. I take things as they come and have learned through life not try and not let things get to me and waste a beautiful day. Yes Cancer is scary...real scary..and not knowing is just as hard. I just try not to think about it and if I do I get as much info I can abut possible outcomes so I'm prepared to ask questions. Being unprepared for any diagnosis good or bad only causes un-needed worrying. So I hit the books or in this case the web. This site has been very helpful and very informative. thank you all.
