going into UK hospital Dec 7th

I am going in for my hyster Dec 7th. I have never had surgery before and have never set foot into a UK hospital Don't really know how it will be different. My dr says I will be in the hospital for 7 days. Don't really know what to expect when I come out. My husband will be at work during the day when I come out of the hospital. The dr said stairs won't be a problem but I am not so sure. There is a fair amount of lifting of heavy bundles of paper in my job so I don't plan to go back to work too soon.

Asked the dr about working out, yoga etc and he told me to wait a minimum of 3 months to let it heal well.

Any comments

I am getting quite anxious.

Hi Shirley...I am sure all will go well with your op. The standard time off work after a hyster in the uk is recognised to be 3 months - and for 6 weeks we are not allowed to lift anything heavier than a kettle.

It is advisable to have someone with you during the day for at least the first week after you come out of hospital.. or someone who can pop in to see you if your husband can't have time off. You need some moral suport at that time as well.

Don't be anxious....there are many of us on here to reassure you.
I actually enjoyed my enforced rest and relaxation time!
