Why do some people feel bad for me?

Hi Ladies!
Just a simple question (I think). I recently saw my Dr. and I am scheduled for LAVH. When I told my Mom, she was really sad for me. I don't understand because I am 30 years old and have 2 beautiful children. I've had horrible periods my whole life and the pain from the endo has gotten worse. I feel good about my decision and that this will help me physically and mentally in the long run. My mother-in-law and sister-in-law also had similar feelings as my Mom. All in all if this will help me feel better, why does everyone seem like they feel sorry for me?
Sincerely,
Laurie
Best wishes to all!

Why do some people feel bad for me?

Laurie,
They may be concerned about you because this is major surgery. Though, for most folks, everything goes fine, there can be complications. It's wonderful that your family cares so much for you.
In the long run, this surgery will probably help you. But the recovery is a process (not a quick process at that).
I feel it was worth it for me, though.
Remember to accept any help that is offered. It sounds like your family will be there for you.
I'm sorry you have had such painful periods and endo, for so many years. I know it sure felt like a light at the end of the tunnel when my hyst got scheduled!
All the best to you, LL

Why do some people feel bad for me?

Hi Laurie,

I have wondered that also. However, it shows they care and are not taking it lightly. As your positive attitude shines throught they will also sart to look at it in a healing manner. I am like you...very at peace with everything. I am scheduled for LAVH Jan. 25th. Just had to get that December vacation in. We have 5 children and I have been fighting chronic anemia, painful cramps, periods so bad I can't leave the house for more than 20 minutes. Finally I said, "For What?" So....I realized I did not need to keep hanging onto something that was making me sooooo sick. I am looking forwar to having the surgery done and an improved quality of life. LOL...keep me posted. YOU are in my prayers.

Why do some people feel bad for me?

Hi Ladies!
Thank you for your replies. I do know that they care a lot about me (esp. my Mom!) I think it's just the tone of voice and that look in their eyes. And the fact that I'm doing this to improve my health not hinder it! (Although I know that the recovery will be a while!) Thanks again!
All the best!

Why do some people feel bad for me?

Maybe it has something to do with your age. I had my hyster when I was 29 and I also got alot of the sad looks and "awww, you poor thing". Someone actually patted my head (like I was a dog) and told me how sorry they were. I guess those were better then all the stupid comments that were made to me, but still it felt weird having people pity me.
Good luck with your surgery!!!

Why do some people feel bad for me?

What amazes me is the people that say " Oh, I didn't know you were having problems" Like we yell it for the world to hear!! LOL To me it is kinda personal. I don't go around saying, my back hurts, I have a migraine, my stomach hurts, I am moody today, etc....

Why do some people feel bad for me?

I think people are being kind and showing concern because however pleased you are with the expected outcome of your hysterectomy, it is major surgery, takes a long time to fully recover and is actually a big deal. They don't know that going through all that is better than putting up with your current quality of life issues.

Why do some people feel bad for me?

I have come across two classes of people as far as concern goes...
1) those that think OMG...how horrible
2) shoot, I know a lot of people that had it done and were back to work in no time

There seems to be no in between...lol
I think as long as you are ok with your decision...that is all that counts. Good luck and best wishes
