Haematoma!

I am almost 4 weeks post TAH/BSO and have a hard belly, I have spoken to my GP and he informed me that it could be a haematoma. I am really worried now, is this normal? I am really worried that it is going to become infected, is there anything I should do or should I just wait it out?

Would really appreciate some advice on this and if anybody else has had this and that everything turned out ok.

Thank you.

Nicky

Haematoma!

Dear Mrs-B -- so sorry you are having a time of it! i have heard other ladies talk about the hematomas (we crass americans go with the non-c'ae'sarean spelling. i was an english major and I cannot even recall what that ae thing is even called!) Someone will see this soon and give you a much better answer, but you can search the post op threads (i would try the american spelling even though yours is prettier) for 'hematoma' and see what you can find that is already out there!

prayers for you Mrs-B!

Haematoma!

My OB had to give me Heparin before my TAH due to a clotting disorder. I ended up with two massive hematomas because I pulled the stitches loose (moving my Iv pole) and blood pooled in the tear around my internal incision. One of them was 12 inches long and it started to become septic two days after my initial surgery. They had to go back in and remove it. The other hematoma was about four inches long and my OB didn't think that I would make it through another surgery so he decided to allow it to dissolve on its own. It has completely disappeared and I have no residual effects. You will need to watch for severe swelling, heat (from the swollen area) and fever. I had all of the above and it was due to the infection that went along with the hematoma. Good luck. I hope that everything goes well.
