Back in the saddle

That is a good question . I have horses myself and did not think about that . The only good thing for me is it will be cold during my recovery .

But I would like to know when I can get back in the saddle again too !

Anyone who might know please let us know . Thanks !

I think that's a question that you should ask your dr.
I was on restrictions for for 6 weeks after my tah/bso . After that I resumed normal activities slowly. It actually took me several more weeks before I felt back on par and even then had to rest often when I was really active ( I clog dance - very aerobic ).

Best wishes, follow your dr's orders and listen to your own body - that was advice that worked pretty well for me.

Back in the saddle

Talked to some friends that ride and they said I should be able to ride in 8 weeks. Having a TAH the 17th. I have a three day dressage clinic the 1st of April that I plan on riding in. May not be doing much sitting trot. they did say I will be sore for a while. But I can't think of anything better than posting a trot to build those stomach muscles back up. It's the straddling that they don't want you to do for awhile. But believe me I plan on taking lots of walks down to the barn for my horsey snuggles, my nurse who also rides just said to make sure I take my tummy pillow with me, in case they decide to nudge a little to much. But no pushing the wheel barrow, picking the stalls, lifting for 6 weeks. Well the picking stalls she said as long as it's light after about 3 weeks, but we won't tell my husband that. Although, I'm not sure I will be able to handle not picking the stalls. Sort of my therapy, anger management.

Back in the saddle

I didn't start riding again until about 3 months post-op - on the advice of my surgeon. The main reason for the delay was exactly what happened next, and that is I had a big wreck! I was on my horse, holding my DH's colt while he got off to do something (we were working cattle) and somehow I got my right leg tangled in his horse's mecate. The colt freaked, and drug me off my horse and I had a pretty bad fall.

So, you know from riding obviously that this kind of stuff can happen any time. Please be careful and don't start back too soon, just to prevent any fall from having more serious consequences!
