walking pain

I have noticed when I walk at a fast pace or for long periods that I get pains in my lower abdomen & on my right side. Has anyone else experienced this. I am 8 weeks post-op now. Shouldn't I be okay now?

walking pain

Is the pain like the pain you get anytime you run too much? You know like when you had to run the mile (or whatever it was) in high school? Like a stitch in your side? Just slow down your pace a bit. 8 weeks is still early to be going at a fast pace!

walking pain

I'm a walker from way back.
I really thought I would be back into it quickly but it has been a real surprise how long it is taking me.
I am walking pretty much every day, and am often caught out by a "surprise" twinge which forces me to slow down again. Every now and again I feel fantastic and think I'm doing really well, BUT...

I have a good day, then a bad one (like today).
I find as Weiser says, just slow down and the pain eases.

walking pain

I found the same thing when walking, I find that when I walk faster I am not concentrating on the walk and actually contract and hold my abdominal muscles tightly the whole time, I have to remember to slow down and concentrate on relaxing those muscles then I feel better. Old habits are hard to break.

I thought it was just me . Glad to know that I am not alone. It is amzing how long and hard this recovery is. It's like everyone thinks you should be back to 100% a few weeks after when in fact it looks more like it will take more like 6 months.

Thanks for all your replies. I am also glad I'm not the only one having this problem because it means it's a normal part of healing...just have to be careful & slow down when our body sends us a warning. I'm always afraid of causing internal damage whenever I feel the slightest twinge. I guess shopping at wallmart should be done with caution. By the way is it safe to push a shopping cart at 8 weeks post-op? Thanks again.

HIPHIP HOORAY! I took my first walk around the block two days ago and 3/4 of the way through my walk, I felt like the bottom was falling out from aching and pressure. I'm so glad I'm normal. I"m at the 5-week point and all I can say is that it's SO relative to each person, but it's normal for all of us to have twinges, aches and that's the body saying slow down.

I've had the problem walking too. My husband suggested that I take smaller steps. That sure helped! I'm so used to taking giant steps, because he is over a foot taller than me --and it is all in the legs. I can still go fast if I take smaller steps.

Please remember that even though others may share the same post-op problems/experiences, it doesn't mean that it's *normal*. Tiredness might be normal at 5 weeks, but I'm not so sure about aching, pressure and the feeling that the bottom was falling out Give your doctor a call and ask if he thinks this is a part of normal healing. This way, you can be sure that everything is as it should be.

walking pain

The weather has been bad & I have done nearly no walking lately. Is this bad on my recovery? I kind of mope around the house all day when I don't go anywhere & I'm so bored! When I go to malls I get so hot & immediately have to remove my jacket which is a drag because then I have to carry it. Any suggestions?
