Complete Change of Hair Texture?

It's been about a year and half since hysterectomy and removal of 1 ovary. Probably at the 1 year mark, my hair started changing - from absolutely straight to curly. I looked it up and there doesn't seem to be that much written about it. a handful of younger people (which confused me since it's hormonal). All I've learned is that the cuticle changes shape and this changes the shape of your hair. It seems simplistic.

The issue is mostly that I have no idea what to do with my hair anymore. It takes awhile to figure out how to handle it and the things I used to use don't work anymore. Advice is thin on the ground. It's funny how much your hair is part of your identity.

Anyone else getting advice on how to deal with new hair texture?

Re: Complete Change of Hair Texture?

I am not that far along, but I am looking forward to my texture changing - I have fine hair and really want more body.

Have you consulted your stylist? They may have some ideas of ways you can change up your hair and still stay "you".

Re: Complete Change of Hair Texture?

My moms hair changed when she had general anesthesia - she went from curly to straight. I *really* hope that doesn't happen to me!
As a curly girl myself, welcome to the club. Google "curly hair websites", and there should be some great ideas for you to try.
I swear by using a good moisturizing shampoo & conditioner and using styling mousse in my hair so it doesn't get frizzy.
Good luck!

Re: Complete Change of Hair Texture?

My hair turned curly months after my 2nd child was born. It also thinned extensively and started the new trend of a grey streak in the corner just above the temple. That was 24 years ago. Because of the thinning I went to a specialist who said it was due to a traumatic experience. I didn't consider having a baby as traumatic, but my doc said it's your body's interpretation. I also had my appendix out at 6 months pregnant, so he said it was a double-whammy to my system.

Anyway....I still have curly hair and most of the time I love it because it gives the appearance of being thicker than what it really is. But curly hair is most sensitive to the weather and as ToffeeCat said, you'll need moisturizing shampoo, conditioner and something for frizz control. I find that I have to switch products with the seasons, in the winter a mousse is too heavy. In the summer I need more frizz control. You'll need a good stylist also....he can make the difference in how much you like your new hair.

Good luck and enjoy testing new hair styles!!
