Small fibroid with untypical issues... :-\

I've been searching this site for some type of similiar issues & none found so far. My Dr's switch on options has me confused as well. A couple years ago, I started having period issues. I would have periods within a couple of weeks of each other and flow ranged all over and then I'd skip months as well. All tests were normal. Then about a year ago I had a period last for 3 months and it varied in flow. My uterus was enlarged to a 12 week and an ultrasound showed a grape sized subserosal fibroid on the top of my uterus.(Not the type to create havic with bleeding). The endometrial biopsy came back clear & blood work came back normal again. Dr said my options were the pill, an IUD, an ablasion, or have a hysterectomy. She tried me on various low dose bc pills, but they caused major migraines and the last one made me rage with anger. My dh was the one to realize my anger coincided with the last set of pills. I stopped taking it and all side effects went away within a week. First month off them, my period was normal, then the second one was on time but lasted for almost 2 weeks, and now I haven't had one for 7 weeks. Dr felt my symptoms and monthly issues were a sign that I was in perimenopause, but a new round of blood work has shown my hormones to still be normal yet again. I had mentally prepared myself to just yank it out as I'm fed up with it all. I'm 47 & was never able to have children, so I don't know why I need to hold on to this broken uterus. At my last appointment, I told her I wanted to go with the hysterectomy(timing with my work is perfect too) and she now says she'd rather me think about the IUD or ablasion. Everything I read about both of those makes it sound like I'm opening myself up to the chance of a new set of issues!!!
To add to it, my Mom was the first female in 3 generations to actually go through menopause. Uterine cancer has caused all others to have hysterectomies at early ages. My Mom went through the change at 48, so I'm in the same age range as her.
I'm sooooooo confused on what to do...

I can't tell if you've had a 2nd opinion? It sounds like you are ready for surgery, and less interested in alternatives. Another opinion may agree with you, or encourage you to try one or more options first. Hysterectomy can have its own set of issues potentially, so many GYNs will want you to try everything else first. A good GYN should also listen to your preferences and thoughts on the options. It's a difficult decision, best wishes on making the decision right for you.

What of UFE or Asseca to treat the fibroid only?

Thank you for the replies. I am going to get a second opinion. A friend of mine gave me a reference to a specialist in our area. The reason I was prepared for a hysterectomy was that was presented as a possible option at the start and my growing monthly frustration compounded it. I'm not sure what UFE or Asseca are, so I'll do some research on them.

Each is much less invasive and works. I read online yesterday that an 18 cm fibroid one year after ufe had shrunk to 5 cm. Amazing results but these methods require patience but the wait is worth it. Ufe requires you use an interventional radiologist. There is a doctor search for a physician near you site. Your doctor is only giving you the options she is capable of performing not full disclosure of all your options. I think this should be illegal. Good luck!
