What Happens Next with HRT?

I am 32 and am two weeks post-op from a SAH-BSO. I know that I will now be going onto HRT but when? What happens now? I am due to see my doctor on March 16th, but since the plan was to keep at least one ovary, we never really touched on how HRT works. Is it ok to go with nothing for 6 weeks? There seem to be a lot of options out there for taking HRT. Someone told me that oral pill are bad for your liver. Is this true?

Thanks for any information you can give me.

What Happens Next with HRT?

I started HRT after 5 weeks. My dr was completely ok about taking orally. She isn't keen on implants, I have sensitive skin so she wasn't too keen on patches, she said that a lot of the hype about liver etc is blown out of proportion- but that is her opinion of course. Hope this is helpful.
Best wishes

What Happens Next with HRT?

I had a total hyst but because the endometriosis was so bad my dr wants to wait 30 days before starting HRT.

They will probably address your HRT by your symptoms. If you have hot flashes etc they will probably give you a little estrogen and then adjust from there.

Also, it was explained to me, since I have had adenomas removed from my liver, that hormone REPLACEMENT will not bother your liver very much it is when you are taking additional hormones, like oral contraceptives that problems can happen.

What Happens Next with HRT?

I had no endo nor any problems with my liver so I am not sure what the protocall will be for me. I am assuming that I won't have anything before 6 weeks. I have experienced very mild hot flashes and I am a little touchy and emotional but I pretty much rack that up to having had major surgery, losing all of my reproductive organs at 32, and trying to sell my home while I am recovering!

My mother and grnadmother hardly experienced any menopausal symptoms so I am hoping it runs in families. I will need it primarily to protect myself from the other risk factors at such a young age. I have so many questions, but I guess since it is so personalized I will have to wait to see my doctor.

Thanks for your responses. At least I know that it is not uncommon to go 5 or 6 weeks with nothing before starting HRT.

What Happens Next with HRT?

My doctor said the longest a body could go without hormones is six months. He is planning for me to be without for three months.

I had a TAH/BSO and was found to have Adenomyosis as well as the Endometriosis that we already knew I had.

Hi Sunshein

I think your doctor is the best to help you decide what HRT route to take, but you can do some research on this site by clicking on the "Hormone Jungle" tab at the top of the page. There are a lot of articles that you may find interesting,

Best wishes s
