Re: For you ladies who had an ablation

I had an ablation in February. I think I've had about 2 week's worth of no bleeding/discharge in this entire 8 months, including 2 full-blown periods complete with cramps. I've been calling the doctor's office and talking with the nurse every couple of weeks or so, it seems. I've been in a few times for shots of progesterone to see if that helps, but it hasn't. The last time I called and talked to the nurse, I asked her when do we throw in the towel and take other measures. She asked if I wanted an appointment to discuss it with the doctor. That was late on a Thursday, and the following Tuesday, I was in his office. I knew there was a possibility that it wouldn't work, but I had such high hopes.

I'm scheduled for November 15th, and I can't wait. Every woman I've spoken to has told me it was the best thing they ever did for themselves.

Re: For you ladies who had an ablation

Hi I had an ablation done 6/09 and the surgery was awful done in the office and noe of the pain meds worked so I basically felt everything they were doing. I have not had an actual period since but 10/09 started having severe pain in my pelvic/groin/thigh area. I still have it today on and off have had about every thing checked and had 3 ct scans on abdomen, colonoscopy, 2 endoscopes, (found ulcer), kidney check for stones, and also had my gallbladder out. Came back with a vengance 2 weeks ago, pain med would not stop pain. I have gone to the emergency room twice since 10/09 for the pain. Last week er doc said looks like my fibroids are dying sent me to gnyo. Gyno said would not make my leg hurt said it could be "back issue" got an MRI done and now all of a sudden after all this time wants me to call him back for surgery as back should not be causing my pain!!!! I can'[t say this pain comes from the ablation as he has never said that but I have my suspicions. I have pretty much always had the fibroids.

Re: For you ladies who had an ablation

Do a search for pain after ablation...seems like alot of people have the same issue with pain...I would get a second opinion..

Re: For you ladies who had an ablation

I hope you find relief soon. It sounds like what your doctor told you contradicts what two doctors have shared with me. The Uterus nerves extend downard into our buttocks and can cause shooting pains in the lower extremities and lower back. I would definitely try to see a specialist in endometriosis/adenomyosis or a urologist.

Good luck!

Re: For you ladies who had an ablation

I have had two ablations. First one in 2004 and it certainly helped the horrible bleeding--for a while. That first one I was put under, the heated type and was quick recovery. The second one was 14 months ago and was the "freezing" type. I was awake and in a tremendous amount of pain. It hasn't helped and with all my fibroids and a very enlarged uterus, I'm now looking at a hysterectomy. Two others I know were helped tremendously by ablations. Just with my issues....not for me...

Re: For you ladies who had an ablation

Hi!
For me, all of your stories are compelling in the sense that none of us were told of complications like these and I am sure that the doctor's would know-or maybe they don't. I am in pain today and called my doc's office and told them and they were prompt at getting back to me but the doctor wants to wait until he gives me a script. I see him tomorrow but you think that they would say come in today but I guess he is booked. This is a time I wished I paid out of pocket to see a doctor who took the time to address this. I am vulnerable right now and my confidence is shaken a bit.

My appt. is for 10am tomorrow. I am wondering if there is blood trapped. I am bleeding bright red now but not alot. We will see how things go and I will let you know how tomorrow's appt. goes. I don't regret trying this but I definitely thought it would be a better result and recovery period.

Maybe something was hurt during the procedure. Now, my mind is doing tricks on me. I am so glad that we all can share our stories and what pain we have gone thru. It does comfort me so much!

I would definately ask him to send you for a U/S, unless he knows "without a doubt" what is wrong!
Good luck tomorrow... and let us know how things go.

Will do! What if he asks why do you want an ultrasound? I feel intimadated when I go into any doctor's office. Thanks for the vote of confidence!
