Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

Everyone is talking about the bowel prep and stuff they need to do. My doc said for diff reasons he doesn't like that and put me on a liquid diet the day before surgery.

So tomorrow all I can have is broth, juice, jello and water. Honestly that sounds better to me than some of the alternatives I've read about.

Did anyone else do this???

BTW, I'm having DH take me out tonight for my "last" meal!

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

Good luck with your surgery!!!! I think a liquid diet does sound alot better than the bowel prep, I am not sure what I will be doing my pre-op is 2 weeks from today (8-7). I am really dreading what I will have to do. But I will do whatever the doc wants and have my surgery then getting back to normal.

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

When I set up my surgery date I was told that I will have to be on a liquid diet for 2 days and drink golytly. I personally thing that is way to much. I have yet to read anything any where that someone had to do that much. I don't know if I can even do it. I have even thought about forgetting the whole thing because of the bowel prep. I am so stressed about this and it seems to be something I think about all of the time.

Well good luck with yours and sorry for the rant.

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

I've read where some Dr's don't require bowel prep. I think it's personal choice. I had it with the liquid diet for 36 hours prior and had to stay on liquid diet 5 days post-op. I didn't care since I wasn't hungry anyways.

I still find that I don't eat anything thats hard to digest. Right now at 3 weeks post-op, it's just easier and I don't want anything heavy plus I don't have a taste for it. Normally I eat alot of meat, but I still have no desire for it.

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

Hi, don't feel bad I got the same thing almost. Liquid diet for like 36 hrs and golytely. Maybe its for different procedures. I am having the da vinci assisted hysterectomy so maybe a higher chance of bowel damage? I think my doc just wants to punish me! LOL I am kinda glad since I am always constipated, I wont know how it feels to be empty. LOL

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

Pre-op was yesterday - surgery tomorrow late morning. My doctor said no bowel prep, just clear liquid diet. I did have my coffee this morning with a little milk and I had my yogurt/juice breakfast drink. I have Vitamin Water, jello, italian ice and popsicles for the rest of the work day. Oh and the chicken broth for lunch. Once I get home from my last day at work for 8 weeks, I have apple juice, more popsicles, jello and ices. My stomach is protesting very loudly and my bladder is really having a hard time. I've been to the bathroom twice in less than an hour (fibroids compressing the poor thing) and I'm ready to go again. Tomorrow can't get here soon enough!!

Good luck with your surgery!

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

Hi goldenfinnie,
I was a little bit skeptical when my DR said no bowel prep before my surgery. He didn't even put me on a liquid diet! Just nothing to eat or drink 12 hours prior to surgery.
So every DR is different in how they approach pre-op. And I was pleasantly surprised to not experience any cramping, excessive gas, constipation or other gastro-intestinal problems after my TAH.
Best of luck to you tomorrow!

Liquid Diet Pre-Op??

Same with me. I can't eat 12 hours prior. Doc did say for me to us a Fleet enema the night before. I can say I'm not looking forward to that.

Best of luck to you with your surgery !
