Hot tub for back stiffness??

Hello all~
I had my LAVH on May 3rd and my back is so stiff from all the sleeping and lying down, I was hoping I could take a hot tub without any trouble. When I asked my gynecologist about it at my pre-op appointment a week before the surgery, he said it shouldn't be a problem to take a hot tub after surgery, but now I just wonder about infection or anything that might hurt the areas from soaking. I hate to call and bug him about it, so I thought I'd ask if anyone out here has had any problems with soaking in a hot tub for a few minutes a week after surgery?

Re: Hot tub for back stiffness??

Most Dr's say no tub for a few weeks because of infection. Hot tubs typically have chlorine in them, so they might be an exception. That's something you need to specifically clear with your Dr.

Re: Hot tub for back stiffness??

I would double check for sure before doing it. Maybe a heating pad can fill in until you know it's OK for sure.

Re: Hot tub for back stiffness??

Hi -

I was told no hottubs or jacuzzis until after I was cleared at 6 week check up. I would definitely verify with your Dr that it is OK.

I used a heating pad on my back for the ache just like Dog & Pony Show suggested above.

Hope you find some relief soon... (((((Hugs)))))

Re: Hot tub for back stiffness??

Thanks for all of your replies. I will try a heating pad first and call my doctor to verify if it's OK. My belly button is sore and kind of sticky from where the scope was put in, so I wondered about it soaking in a chemically filled hot tub. I'm usually doing Pilates and walking every day, so this lying around has my back super stiff. I can't wait until 4-6 weeks have gone by! Thanks again for your help...I love this site!

Re: Hot tub for back stiffness??

Like the other's, I'd recommend calling your Dr. Mine said no jacuzzi until my "clearance" appointment. You may want to try the SalonPas patches; or rubbing Traumeel (a homeopathic analgesic) on the area.

Re: Hot tub for back stiffness??

Hope you find something to help your back. Mine is sore from so much couch surfing, too!
