How long before you resumed housework?
Okay, I'm 2 days shy of being 4 wks post-op and I'm following all the rules. But, I'm just curious as to when you actually resumed your house cleaning duties? I've done "light" stuff such as dusting, dishes, laundry after someone carries it to and from the laundry room, etc. But as far as the no-no's go, like sweeping and mopping. My kitchen floor has been mopped once in 4 wks. My feet are black by the end of the day. (I can't stand wearing shoes at home) The kitchen floor really needs to be swept daily! The carpets need to be vacuumed at least every other day. I think they've been vacuumed twicein 4 weeks! We won't even go into the bathrooms, which have been halfway cleaned once during this time. DH is trying. He does manage to get the kitchen cleaned on the weekends. By the time he gets home from work, dinner has to be made. Trying to get the kids to pitch in is like pulling teeth! How much longer do I have to live like this? Thanks for letting me get this off my chest! You ladies are wonderful.

How long before you resumed housework?
Tracy,
I know how you feel. I dusted this morning. Have done 2 loads of laundry. I would love to mop my hard wood floors, and run the sweeper. I have boys, and My DH really does try but he also has 2 jobs. I almost ran the sweeper this morning, and thought don't do it your doing good. Let's wait until Thursday and see what the Dr. says. When do you go back and see your Dr.? If he tells me 2 more weeks I'm going to fly away on a broom stick. That is kinda what my 15 1/2 yr. old thinks of me now. Is a witch. LOL
He asked me yesterday when I was going to beable to do things myself again. he doesn't realize this was a Major surgery.
Take care!

Talk to your doc before resuming the sweeping and mopping, and vaccuming. Get his okay before.
Its funny how all those little dust bunnies really agitate when we have nothing to do but look at 'em.
Hugs to you

How long before you resumed housework?
Well ladies, we finally had someone come in to clean over the weekend. It was REALLY hard for me to spend the money on something like that, but let me just say this:
WORTH EVERY PENNY !!!

How long before you resumed housework?
I didnt start doing the NO, No's until the 5th or 6th week. I couldnt take it any longer. I figured if i did too much of something, my body would let me know. Besides, when i would do something i would sit down and rest for a while. Didnt just do a whole bunch of things.

How long before you resumed housework?
I am just about 3 weeks postop from my TAH. I have swept and mopped. However, I have not carried anything. I saw my dr. on friday and told her that I have done these things. She said knowing my personality, she knew I would. I was very active before my surgery and had very strong abdominal muscles, so I think that I am recovering faster than most. However, I didn't mop everyfloor or sweep every floor at once. Each day I would pick one and that's it. As far as vacumming, that seems like the biggest no no. I am not going to attemp that for at least another 3 weeks. My DH and DD have tried, but their cleaning is definitely not up to my standards. I just have to ignore my messy house and know that in a few weeks I will be able to get my house back in order. There are worse things in life than a messy house....

How long before you resumed housework?
I cleaned the bathrooms at 2 weeks, but I did one bathroom at a time with laying down in-between. With 3 baths it took pretty much all day. The only thing I didn't do was the garden tub in our bathroom, so hubby did that one. I kind of dust around all week, doing a room here and a room there.
I am 4 weeks post-op. I did the ceramic floors this week...I have one of those Hoover floormates and it's very light and pushes easily. I had one of the kids carry it up the stairs to do the bathroom floors up there.
I will not vacuum until at least 6 weeks, maybe even 8. I have one vacuum that is very hard to push, even when you haven't been cut open and had your guts squished around! But our kids know we expect them to clean with us when we are cleaning, so we haven't had trouble with getting it done.

How long before you resumed housework?
I can relate to the messy house syndrome, especially the shower stall! My teenage DD is doing most of the chores, but her heart is definitely not in it - she doesn't seem to notice that most of dust bunnies like to hide in the corners & edges of the rooms. And mopping? HA! Oh well, I figure I'll take advantage of whatever extra help I'm getting as long as possible, because it probably won't happen again!

How long before you resumed housework?
My DH injured his back on Friday, so he is hardly able to move around. That has forced me to do more, but I think I overdid it yesterday. I did 3 loads of laundry, went to the store for groceries (only 2 bags), trimmed my toenails, loaded the dishwasher. All in all, I think it was too much bending. Last night the area around my belly button felt very hard and sore, and today I'm exhausted. DH is wanting my support and attention, and it's hard to say no. It's a problem to have two people both needing help at the same time. He's going to see a dr. this afternoon. I think I'll take another nap!

Well, hopefully you'll have enough clean clothes and food to last for a couple of days until one of you can get around more again!
