post op mouth pain

I had TAH 4 days ago. I'm healing well but my mouth is so sore that I can hardly eat. I think it might be from the anesthesiologist putting the tube down my throat. This is annoying because it even hurts to drink water. Has this happened to anybody and how do I stop the pain?

Re: post op mouth pain

I had a sore throat after another surgery from the tube down my throat and it lasted only for a few days and wet away on it's own (got better a little every day). I would have it checked out if it doesn't seem to get better because you might have picked up an infection. Strep throat is quite painful.

When I get a scratchy throat before a cold I use over the counter spray to numb it, and this helps it.

Hope it gets better.

Re: post op mouth pain

HI Wookie!
I had mouth pain that wasn't a sore throat. At first I thought it was but by 5 days post op the throat part of it was resolved and it was tenderness in the soft palate at the back roof of my mouth. I figured it got a bit bruised by the tool they use to keep the air tube lined up when they put it in. Today is day 10 post op and the bruised feeling is all gone now.
I hope it feels better really soon for you too!

Re: post op mouth pain

Yup,
I made myself drink water, juice and hot tea. If it's not better in a few days check with your Dr. I hadn't even realized that it felt better until I read your first message and realized it was better. Weird Huh?!

I bet you'll be better in a couple more days.
