2 Days Post Hysterectomy - Medication Confusion

Hi, I read so much about meds on this site before surgery and thought I had it down, but now I'm home, out of it, and totally confused about my options and what's safe to take with what. Hoping someone can help me.

I have prescriptions for OxyCocet and Naproxen, and the doctor listed 3 non-narcotic pain meds I could try to use instead. I was out of it and now have no idea what they were! Can anyone give suggestions of what my best bets might be for safe and effective non-narcotic options while I likely still have the oxycocet and naproxen in my system? Thanks!

Re: 2 Days Post Op - Medication Confusion

Tylenol?

Since you are taking naproxen, you want to avoid other Nsaids.

You should call your pharmacist to see what you can take with it.

Thanks, that helps. I tried the pharmacist and she just said use the Naproxen, but I know the doc listed other possibilities. I guess Tylenol is a safe bet. Thanks again.

Not if the Oxycocet has acetaminophen (tylenol) in it. That is one that you don't want to double-up on. You should look it up online and make certain.

Can you call your Dr. to ask for clarification?

Re: 2 Days Post Op - Medication Confusion

So there are 3 classes of meds you can use: one narcotic, like Percocet, one pill with acetaminophen, which is in your Percocet. So either Percocet OR Tylenol, not both.
And an NSAID in addition, like ibuprofen or naproxen like Aleve.
Unless he gave you ketorolac pills, that would be NSAID socant use with ibuprofen or Aleve.

Sounds like you can use the Percocet and the naproxen OR ibuprofen.

Re: 2 Days Post Hysterectomy - Medication Confusion

Thanks for the replies. I was really overwhelmed! Ended up taking the Naproxen twice daily as directed and either oxycocet or Extra Strength Tylenol every 6 hours. I've been on only the Tylenol and Naproxen yesterday and today and am managing well.
