how long is surgery?

Hello ladies,
I'm scheduled for a TVH on 10/21 and I was wondering how long can I expect surgery to last. I know there is no definite answer but I'm trying to give my DH some idea of how long I will be in surgery. I've told him to stay with me through admission then come back when I am in recovery. He seems real happy with this knowing that he doesn't have to stay the whole time I am in surgery.

how long is surgery?

Hi There!

You really need to ask your doctor this question. The length of time of a surgery depends on many factors such as the reason you are having it, your general health and other circumstances. I had a TAH/BSO and it took less than an hour.

Good Luck to You!

Moe, I work at the big house and if they know you are not accompanied with someone staying with you they will cancel the surgery. They have to have someone available at all times. Anyone else that can go???

Maybe different in USA then Australia but you don't need someone to stay here , my surgery TAH/BSO was supposed to be 2 1/2 hrs and went for over 4 hrs ,the hospital were good and called my DH when I got into recovery , He doesn't like hospitals and it was good for him to wait at his friends nearby rather than pace the corridors

My surgery was about 4 hours because they had to wait on lab results for biopsies of my cycts. Thank God they were benign! i would agree with the earlier post that you should ask your DR.

My 2 cents

Hello;
My surgery was about 4 hours. A lot depends on what they are going to do.
Ask your doctor to be sure.

Best wishes to you!

how long is surgery?

Hi Ladies,

I had a TVH and in my case it was 1.5 hours. So must have been pretty straight forward!
I suppose it depends on how much work they need to do & if any repairs (eg prolapse) are required.

Good luck for your upcoming surgery.

Cheers,
Albie

how long is surgery?

My doctor said to plan on 2 hours for my TAH. He does a cosmetic closure which takes more time than staples. Plus, he does not want to cut me vertically so it will take longer with a hip to hip incision.

I had a TAVH and it took almost three hours, she had to cut up the fibroids and one was stuck to my bladder so it took a little longer but so glad I didn't get the big cut. My husband dropped me off but left phone numbers to be reached, he hates waiting in hospitals, he is such a wuss.

Yes, your dr. can give you an estimate of how long it is expected to take, but that is an estimate--it may take longer. You don't want them rushing around inside there anyway. Definitely, ask.
