Sleepless Nights

Hi all,
I am almost 3 weeks post-op (TAH w/bladder repair on 3/29) and have been having so much trouble sleeping. As soon as the lights go out I become very uncomfortable and frustrated. I sat up for about two hours last night crying uncontrollably! I'm not in very much pain anymore, it's just...I don't know. Wondering if anyone else can relate.

Could it be hormones? Both my ovaries are still in tact, so I didn't think that I'd have any hormonal side effects.

I'd appreciate any advice.

Sleepless Nights

Oyst,

Just wanted to ask you if you are anemic? When I was anemic I was very uneasy going to sleep and felt like if I went to sleep something would go wrong. It was almost like anxiety which can be brought on by shallower breathing which often comes with anemia. Anyway, if you are, just wanted to let you know the symptoms went away as my hemoglobin level went up.

I had trouble sleeping at about weeks 4 and 5 after my hysterectomy, but it was more related to messing up my sleep patterns. In the first 3 weeks or so I let myself sleep whenever I wanted to (which is good when in recovery), consequently I would be awake nights and asleep during the day. It took a few weeks to flip that around, and I have to say exercising is what fixed it for me. I would get that nice exhausted feeling from my exercise and it worked like a sleeping pill.

I hope you can pinpoint the problem and that it's over soon. There are several sleep threads on this site that you may want to read.

Happy ZZZZZZZZZZZZZs to you.

Linda

Sleepless Nights

HI. I had the same problem at 4 weeks. I finally went to my family dr. and mentioned to him whilst I was there for another reason. I did not think that he would say too much, probably just tell me that it would go away. He, however was concerned. He said that it can be from the trama from the surgery. He gave me some sleeping pills. He told me not to be affraid to use them when i felt it was necessay. So I did. I really only needed them for a few nights, but wow what a difference when you get a good nights sleep. It was worth it. It can be so frustrating laying awake all night. Take care. It does get better.
