No Date: Diagnosed with PE

I just spent two days in the hospital for a pulmonary embolism. It was caused by taking birth control pills to keep me from getting my period. Now I am on blood thinners and won't even begin to think about surgery for my fibroids for at least another 6 months. I am still meeting with my surgeon on Wednesday and am hoping he can come up with an alternate idea for this. Just frustrated again with yet another set back. I took me a month to even get the appointment with the surgeon.

I am sorry to hear about your additional setback.

Once you get a new surgery date make sure you update your profile with the new date and remove the 10/1 date if that one isn't holding.

The same thing happened to me in 2002 -- I took birth control pills to keep my periods from being so heavy, and I got a DVT which went undiagnosed, despite going to the doctor 3 times for leg pain (they told me it was arthritis and to lose weight) -- then a month later I had severe shoulder pain and went to the ER and the CT showed multiple pulmonary emboli.

It was determined after a thrombogenic panel was done that I have a couple of genetic clotting problems and need to stay on Coumadin for life.

I had to stop my Coumadin the Sunday before my surgery on Friday and give myself Lovenox injections in the stomach thru Thursday, then the nurses gave me Lovenox injections after the surgery.

So I know how you feel and just wanted to let you know it will be OK -- my doctor put in an IVC filter in 2005, so that protected me as well.
