Should I call the doc? redness around incision, 3 weeks out

Hi,

I'm not sure if this is something to be worried about... my incision on the right side has been more tender all along, but now I've noticed there is some pus and swelling on one part, and also there is a faint ring of red on the skin surrounding the incision, maybe .5" in all directions.

To call or to wait?

Hi!

I would definitely give the doctor a call. If you have an infection, it's better to start on medication sooner rather than later. When in doubt, always err on the side of caution and call.

Please let us know what your doctor says, okay?

It's unanimous -- I agree you should call the without delay. If you have an infection, you'll just feel worse and worse as time goes on.

Keep us updated, OK?

I agree also. I had some question about whether one of my incisions was infected a couple of weeks ago (it wasn't) and was told to definitely see the doctor if I thought that was the case, or to call him if any indications of infection showed up after he examined it and sent me back with care instructions for it. And pus is never a good sign.

I called, and they decided to see me. I got antibiotics. It was kind of infected, and I had cellulitis. Thanks for the good advice!

I'm so glad you called and got checked. I'm sorry that you have an infection and cellulitis but it's good that you're on medication to clear it.

Best wishes as your recovery continues!
