2nd staged surgery on the 11th

I haven't really introduced myself because I'm kind "in media res" with all this.

I collapsed at work this past August when an undiagnosed ovarian tumor torsed (spun on its axis) and started bleeding. I had emergency surgery (exploratory laparotomy) that day and they removed a mass that seems too large to have fit in my body.

The hardest part of recovery was the long time away from my job. Unfortunately it's just not the kind of job where you can sit down or take a time out. I'm usually standing for 8 to 10 hours at a time. So I was totally out for 6 weeks.

I'm not that worried about surgery on Thursday which is #2 in a series to remove various offending tissue. I'm familiar with anesthesia drugs and I guess that gives me a small feeling of control even though I'll be sleeping through this one.

It's the recovery I don't look forward to. I just finally started feeling 100% normal about 2 weeks ago. I've been doing a full schedule at work and enjoying it. Life is good. Now I'm going back to square one again with the itchy incision and everything. What a bummer.

The silver lining is that this time I get to plan! I get to pack a bag with the stuff I pick out (rather than the weird stuff my boyfriend grabbed in a panic). I've transferred cases to associates and let regular patients know I'll be out. Friends and family know where I'll be and when I'll be there. So, it's not all bad.

Anyway, just checking in.

Re: 2nd staged surgery on the 11th

Welcome GroundScore!

I'm from around your way myself I had my surgery on October 22nd and found this website as I was looking for Q&A on hysterectomies. You will find that it's really a wonderful resource and you can get answers or even just support. For me, its just nice to know that I am not alone in the situations that I face, before and after surgery.

Just a bit about me...Im 38 and was suffering with what I termed "episodes" where I would get these severe stomach pains, sweat, itch all over for about 5 months. I went to the ER twice because they always seemed to happen at work. The last one I had, I decided that the ER doctor was not going to tell me that I had a "stomach virus", that NO ONE has a stomach virus every month without fail and thats when I discovered I had large fibroids. So I definitely understand your situation, especially the work situation. I decided to have the TAH because I have always had painful periods but it had gotten over the top and was affecting too many aspects of my life.

I enjoyed myself while I was at the castle I brought my mp3 and my laptop and just chilled. The recovery...well I get bored sometimes but I am in school so I have homework and of course on this site all the time checking in. So pack what you need, be well and check in from time to time when you get out. Im wishing you all the best!
