Confused and need some answers

I am new to this and I have a few questions/concerns. I had my first ablasion done last March and the pain and excessive bleeding has returned - not to mention the pain when having relations with my hubby. My insides feel like they are falling out for two days after any intimacy or my period - there is pain in my bowel, bladder and vagina. My doctors has found some fibroids with my last ultrasound and I am hoping this will be the reason. I have been putting off the hysterectomy for about 3 years - my gyno suggested it as a last alternative - which I agreed to. My questions - my biggest concern is related to my ability after the surgery to enjoy being with my husband - I don't want to lose that intimacy or that feeling of pleasure and I'm afraid that will happen. My next biggest fear is the hormonal changes - I am hoping to keep my ovaries and cervix - will the removal of these cause more problems than not? My last question for this post is that I'm not sure which surgery would be best for me - I know you can't answer that question because its a personal decision and I've read the details about each surgery - just not sure which one to choose. Thanks for reading and I truly hope this is the right decision.

Confused and need some answers

I hope we can offer you some answers to your questions! I did not have a hyst for fibroids, but here is a link to our resources on this topic: https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/lin...=browse&cid=26.

I can share a bit of my experience and see if it helps. I did have continous bleeding as I have endo. I had a D&C to attempt to stop the bleeding but it did not work.

I kept my ovaries but my cervix was removed. My relationship with my DH has not be affected. By keeping my ovaries, I cycle and have PMS, just as if I had not had a hyst. Some months the PMS is more than others.

I had the LAVH as it was the best hyst type for me. I had already had a lap when I had the D&C so my dr had already "seen" everything inside and had taken care of most of my endo. I also needed an appendectomy and this could be done with the LAVH. It was the least invasive surgery possible for my situation.

Do checkout out the Pre Op Section where you will find questions to ask your dr, info about the various hyst types, and other helpful info.

Each of us are unique so we all will make different decisions. And it is good to be aware that a hyst is not necessarily a cure all for many things. I do continue to have issues with my condition, it was not cured by my hsyt. And some women do end up with other medical issues after a hyst, sometimes as a result of the hyst.

Best wishes to you as you and your dr find the best choice for you!

Confused and need some answers

Hi FullofQuestions,

I was 46 when I had a hyst for two large fibroids. Possilby you are a candidate for a less invasive hyst such as a laparoscopic hyst?? Weiser mentioned the LAVH. I had a LSH, a ~sister~ lap to the LAVH. With my hyst, I had the option to keep my cervix.

Here is a Hyster Sisters link that goes over the ~different~ types of hysts:

https://www.hystersisters.com/vb2/hsa...p?s=&id=152317

I kept my ovaries with my hyst and my ovaries are still working good. I am still very pleased I was a candidate to have a LSH. A laparoscopic hyst was the way to go for me.

Best wishes.

Mary

I had an ablation as well however I wanted a hysterectomy. I did have the same concerns as you and talked to two DRs about it. One thing you cannot completly decide is the size of your uterus and that will decide if you can have the less invasive vaginal surgery. HOwever vaginal surgeries take your cervix. My libido is better than ever..I kept my ovaries, sex is the same regarding orgasms( they are a bit better..i dont know why) and we can do it more often now( i lsot my cervix. I was really bummed when all the bleeding came back and worse after teh ablation. Best wishes on your decision and future.

fullofquestions... I'm concerned about the same things. I was just too embarrassed to put it all out there! However, if I have the hysterectomy, they'll be taking my ovaries too.
