LAVH 6 days post hysterectomy - safe to shower without the dressings on?

Hi was just wondering if anyone knows if it's safe to shower without the dressings on ( 3 small) I took them off today as they were irritating me, surgery was 6 days ago and don't really want to bother a nurse, thanks :-)

It depends on exactly how your incisions are closed, i.e., what's holding them together. You need to call your doc on this one. You're not "bothering" them, you're asking a legitimate question.

I agree with the first poster that you should check with your doctor. My surgery was also laparoscopic, and I was instructed to leave the dressings alone for at least a week. When I took a shower, I was careful not to touch the area a lot; I simply let the water run over it, the gently patted it dry with a soft towel. If the dressings are ittitating you, then your surgeon does need to know about it, so that he can treat it properly. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Thank you for your reply I was actually at the doctors today as I've developed a rash turns out I have a viral infection:-( he said the wounds look good but I completely forgot to ask about showering!
