Face is red

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone has noticed that their face is red since surgery? I'm not sure it's due to surgery, HRT, etc., but my face is much more flushed since surgery. No hot flashes, so it's not that?

If you have noticed the same, please advise.

Thanks!

Face is red

I think I am going through the same thing. I am flushing across my cheeks, nose and my upper eyelids have a slight flush. Was wondering if it was a reaction to surgery -- premarin -- progesterone cream?

Face red

Hi Becky,

I'm not sure what's causing it, but it is noticeable.

I'm on Estraderm .05 and Spironolactone. Have also been taking Penicillan for teeth inflammation. I guess it could be any or all of the above. I have also heard that there is some kind of patchiness that can happen, but not sure if this is the same.

Hopefully someone else will reply that can narrow it down for us.

Hugs,

Face is red

High estrogen levels can cause melasma, which is really common in pregnant women. Here are a couple of links that explain it better than I could:

I hope this helps!

Melasma

Hi Linda,

Yes, I believe melasma is the term I was looking for in describing the facial discoloration. Thank you for letting us know. I have gone to the sites you provided and read up a bit on it. Now, I'll wait and see if it continues. Perhaps the melasma is an initial response to increased estrogen. If it is, maybe it will go away once my body is used to the new addition.

Thanks for your post.

Face is red

Melasma, I believe, is brown patches on the face, usually ont he cheeks and sides of the jaw, but can be anywhere.

I have that.. have to wear 50 SP sunscreen to keep it under control...

I had the red face for a while after surgery, but after a few months it went away.

red face

Hi Zesty,

I'm hoping that mine is just "red face" post surgery and not a permanent discoloration. It just looks like I'm flushed all the time...and not only at cheeks, etc., but the whole face. But, considering I'm sooooooo white after winter, maybe it's not so bad...gives me a little color....lol

Face Red/Spironalactone

Hi Wendy,

Your face is just now getting red - 4 weeks post op? I'm sure it's just a post op/hormonal thing...unless it's more of a brown then maybe it's the melasma that Linda wrote about. Now, if you are hot flushing....the red face may be a part

You took spironalactone pre-op? I have PCO's (polycystic ovaries) and so my testosterone/androgen levels were always quite high. I'm now taking the spironalactone to regulate (god willing) the amounts in my system (PCO's has some nasty symptoms).
