Help

Good Morning Gals,

I'm just a beginner...I just turned 45 this summer, my youngest is going off to college in 8 days, my daughter is disabled and in june moved 7 hrs away to live for the first time on her own. I have been a single mom for over 18 years and just two days ago having been extremely healthy and fit my doctor diagnosed me w/Fibroid Uterine. The call came @ 5:30 pm as I was walking out of our local health food store and he suggested a hysterectomy!
I was shocked! I called friends that I was suppose to join for a cookout and bowed out graciously and cried myself to sleep. I awoke and started to research options and my first web return was your site! Tah dah! How lucky am I? any suggestions? advice?

First of all, you need more than a phone call and five minutes to make this sort of decision.

Do some research. Unless you have uterine cancer (which you clearly do not) this is almost certainly NOT an emergency which needs to be taken care of immediately.

Talk more with your doctor. Get a second (or third, or fourth) opinion. There are lots of non-surgical solutions out there depending on your situation!

You're in the right place for info and support. Welcome!

thank you

I have made the next appointment to my GYN and will see them on the 17th. My Doc has been with me for a long time and the day I was diagnosed last friday he had me in the hospital for a CT scan w/in 20 minutes. He has said my uterious is triple the size and since I have pain he suggested surgery and had me contact my GYN asap. Since, I have been looking into alternatives but my aunt who is close in age just went thru the same thing and hers grew extremely fast so that by the time she had surgery it was the size of a soccer ball (sorry no fruit to reference that size) ; )
Hers was also malignant and she has been three years recovering from chem/radiation. Suggestions?
