Question - New and needing post-op info on pain New and needing post-op info on pain

Hi - I am new to hystersisters. I just completed week 2 of post-op for total hysterectomy. This will make it my 3rd abdominal surgery - 1st was a caesarean for twins, 2nd was an ovary cyst removal and now this is a total hysterectomy. I am really feeling tenderness, swelling, pain. How long will this last?

I was taking vicodin for 10 days, then switched to Ibuprofen (800 milligrams every 8 hours). I find the Ibuprofen is not working as effectively so I just switched back to half a tab of Vicodin ES (7.5/300 every 6 hours.) Feeling better already. Wondering how long I should take Vicodin ES?

Re: New and needing post-op info on pain

I'm glad you found us and joined, and hope you will enjoy spending time here as you heal.

There is good recovery information in the Post-Op Page for you to use, plus you can start new threads on the Post-Op message board where members in all stages of the recovery process can respond. Discuss any recovery concerns that you have with your doctor, too.

Best wishes to you!
