Ready to chew my arm off

I had LAVH/BSO on 12/7/10. Been doing well- great hospital experience, few menopausal issues. I did not have post op shoulder pain, though I know that is common with lap. surgery. Shortly after Christmas my right shoulder started to hurt. I have had pain there before- bursitis, and I have arthritis in my neck. My chiro told me to make sure I told my anseth. to be careful with my neck.
The pain in my neck is now terrible. I have been to the chiro, my regular doc, even had an MRI. I get results of that next week. I am taking Flexeril at night, and Tramadol during the day. They help, as does Ibuprofen 800, but the pain is still there. Anyone have some insight? Could my underlying issues be aggravated by my position during surgery? Any feedback would be helpful.

Re: Ready to chew my arm off

Are you sleeping differently than before surgery?

I had sore throbbing in my right shoulder and found out mine wasn't because of the surgery itself, but from having to sleep on it when hugging the body pillow for six weeks. Now that I can sleep on my tummy again it no longer hurts.

No, I am a back sleeper. Now I can't sleep on my back, at least not in bed-- too much pain in my shoulder joint. I have been sleeping in my recliner. Hurt

Re: Ready to chew my arm off

I would definitely ask a doctor. Let us know what they say if you do. And hoping you have it resolved SOON. Pain isn't fun....especially after the trauma of a surgery. ((((hugs))))

Re: Ready to chew my arm off

I had shoulder pain after surgery that slowly progressively got worse with very limited range of motion. Went to an ortho who diagnosed me with adhesions/capsulitis. He said it can happen after surgery sometimes due to positioning and then worsens after with inactivity. I got a cortisone shot and physical therapy and feel fine now. Definitely get it checked out. I tended to just not use that arm and the non use made it worse. Hope you feel better soon.

Re: Ready to chew my arm off

Thanks for your advice, ladies. I will see my regular doc on thursday. My chiro looked at the MRI, and said my C7 vertebra in particular looks most affected by arthritis. After I talk to regular doc, we'll look at treatment options.

Re: Ready to chew my arm off

I saw my reg. doc today. I am going to start physical therapy. I have had problems with bursitis for years, but i also have a narrow spinal canal, and the bone spurs are pressing on the nerves. Between the previous problems and the positioning of my arm during surgery, it's caused a lot of pain. Still, i'd much rather try PT than anything more drastic like surgery.
