Orgasm, 4 weeks post-op

Hi, I'm new to this site. I had a vaginal hysterectomy, cystocele and perineal repair 4 weeks ago. Progressing well generally (main problems wind and bowels!) but feeling so sexually frustrated. Would love to try having an orgasm using vibrator externally, but afraid of the spasms causing any damage to vaginal tissues. Has anyone tried? Two weeks (at least) seems a long time to wait right now!

Re: Orgasm, 4 weeks post-op

I've read on here that some doc say no stimulation at all for 6 weeks and others say external after 2weeks is ok. You might want to call your doc or his nurse to see what they recommend.

Me personally, I could not resist. I think it was around 3 to 4 weeks, no pain. I couldn't help myself, I just had to know if it still worked. I was pleasantly surprised.

But again, I would check with your doc. I had no repairs and it may be possible that it could cause scaring.

Good luck to you!!

Re: Orgasm, 4 weeks post-op

Just before I went into surgery I asked the nurse if orgasm was ok post-surgery if not outright sex and she said 'yes'. I read oral sex was not OK because of potential bacteria. For the record I had a laprascopic and still have my cervix.

One of my biggest worries was that sex wasn't going to be as enjoyable with my uterus gone because it spasms with orgasm too and had no idea how that played into the overall sensation.

I gave it a go the day before my 2 week post-op on my own, (definitely not before, too crampy). I wanted to experience it on my own at first so I could deal with whatever emotions came up and know what to expect so I could prepare hubby.

I am happy to report that the sensation was even more intense. Was it the waiting? The removal of a 10" x 6" fibroid weighing my body down? Who knows! That said, it was intense and I could feel a little cramp a bit with the intensity during but not after.

At my two week the doctor said when I asked about sex "whenever you feel ready". Holy cow, already? With all the crampiness and vulnerability I still feel I don't think I'll be ready for intercourse for awhile, but there is still room to play!

Re: Orgasm, 4 weeks post-op

Thanks for sharing your experience & glad it worked out so well for you. I suppose with having had a cystocele & perineal repair as well, it's the vaginal area I'm more worried about. As my GP doesn't know any of the details of my case, I don't feel I can ring him (maybe the system is different here from the US) so I'm going to try and be patient till my 6-week (-ish) check up at the hospital clinic. Mind you, I haven't got a date through for that yet...

Many doctors require "complete pelvic rest" until clearance but, if yours didn't give specific orders, then you need to call and ask what is and is not allowed. You risk problems or possible infection by engaging in any sort of sex too soon. Only your doctor knows if your recovery has progressed far enough for any type of sexual activity to be safe.

If you've not done so already, it will help you to check out the following HS links which explain in more detail:

Sending all good wishes for your recovery!

With perinial repair I would not attempt anything without your doctors permission. You risk infection as well as disturbing the " pelvic rest" thing we hear so much about. Even external stimulation can introduce germs.

Re: Orgasm, 4 weeks post-op

Hi everyone
Just to update you - I plucked up the courage to phone my doctor's surgery 2 days ago and was put through to a lovely female doc who said if my discharge had stopped (it has) and there was no pain (there isn't), it was perfectly OK for me to have an orgasm. (She also said it was safe for me to do some gentle swimming, which I wasn't sure about either). I'm happy to report I had a great orgasm later that day (phew - relief on all grounds!) :-) Hope you all get on as well.
