All my support people are sick

First my sister catches a cold on monday, now my daughter has either the flu or pneumonia. My surgery is in 3 days, I'm going to stay with a friend in the meantime, but who will be with me on the big day. I dont want to be alone. My friend can't go because of a medical condition. My parents are further away. I dont want to get sick. I'm just hoping one of them is better by friday.

You'll have to take someone to drive you home.

Re: All my support people are sick

What rotten luck! Here's hoping *someone* gets better by Friday.

For a TAH, you probably won't need a ride home right that day, though. Most people have at least a 2-3 day stay for abdominal surgery. Getting yourself to the hospital (*if* it turns out you have to) may be a bit lonely, but at least your ride home will have a couple extra days to recover.

Re: All my support people are sick

Many hospitals have a patients advocate. So if you should need some help while in the hospital you could have their number handy to call for help. Remember you do have all of us think good thoughts and praying for you. Good luck.

Re: All my support people are sick

The doctor at the hospital thinks my daughter should be ok by friday. Crossing fingers. My sister feels better today than yesterday. But still. I totally lost it at work. I feel bad for leaving my daughter by herself while she is sick, but I can't risk it even with wearing a mask. They gave my daughter a medicine for flu, but without insurance it cost $133. I don't have that kind of money, so I just got Nyquil and am hoping for the best. Im filling her up with orange juice and soup too. Hoping and praying for quick recovery for them both.

Don't stress, though it maybe hard not to. It'll work out, even if you have to drive yourself and let someone get your car later. Stressing may cause your BP to rise. Take care of yourself.

Re: All my support people are sick

Boy can I sympathize. I am glad to hear that they are feeling better today. With luck, they will be able to be with you. If not, ask if there is a patient advocate as someone suggested. I was in the hospital recently by myself after three surgeries and they knew no one had seen me. They sent in this advocate who just listened and talked with me. It made a huge difference recovering from the surgery. And I can also say that my nurses were fantastic as being there for me.
