Hi Nikko,

I am 54 and had my Tah in June this year. I'm sure not that it was more difficult because of my age. I was kind of thinking that it was easier due to already passing through the change of life. No hormone shock and all. I had no night sweats because that was already behind me so the recovery was only about the actual surgery.

I have never taken hormones - ever, even when I started the change. Maybe that has something to do with it.

Outside of the inconvenience of the recovery, the relief of getting all of that unhealthy stuff out was a breath of fresh air. This site was so helpful too. All of my questions about the wierd sensations and ouchies were shared by others here & that made it all so much easier to understand.

Hope yours is a good experience. Good luck to you.

Hi, I am 53 and had my TAH BSO on 4/13 this year. I only wish I had done it sooner but thought I needed to try every other alternative first. I felt like I was having mild menstral cramps when I woke up from my surgery. The following day I did not have much pain and my recovery was very uneventful. I got a chance to watch Dr. Phil, read, and knit. And I did not have to find an excuse to do just that. I am a person who always thinks she has to be on the go all the time and work, work, work. I really enjoyed just doing what I wanted for a change. Am still doing well, have gained some weight that I am struggling to lose but other than that I feel wonderful for the first time in many years. Good luck to you and pm me anytime. Would love to chat with you. Cheryl

I am 57 and had a TVH with A&P repairs a week ago. Everything went very well. I was a bit concerned because of my age but actually it turned out to be an advantage. The children are now all grown and out of the house and my husband is retired. If I were younger, I know that despite doctor's order's I'd be looking after children to a certain extent. It has been very nice to have my husband home all day to help out with whatever is needed. I don't know how I'll feel a few months down the road, but right now things are going well.

Being Older is a helpful thing especially if you are through menopause. I didn't suffer the hormonal effects that some of the younger women are plauged with.I am 50.I had surgery in December + May for multiple prolapses, bladder, rectocele, uterus and vaginal walls.I also had arthroscopy on a knee last Sept. My body has healed well ,but I do get tired more easily. i used to think it was a crime to go to bed before 11 o'clock. I find myself thinking about bed at 9:30 especially now that I am back to work fulltime . a nap some days would be nice too.My children are grown, my last two are moving out this week to go back to college. I know I will be less tired when they are gone. I don't know that I would have had the energy to take care of little ones.I guess it's a trade off because I am a teacher and the kids come tomorrow.I planning on a year to recoup my energy level, but I do manage to get as much done as I care to. Hang in there.

Hi there, I am 53yrs old and had my TAH BSO 14 weeks ago. Have recovered extremely quickly from the operation and even my 7inch vertical incision is beginning to disappear. The only downside I have is excessive night sweats, every 1-2 hours. I did not keep my ovaries. Didnt see the point at my age, my opinion only. I do not want to take HRT if I can help it. I keep active by walking each day and drinking plenty of water. Best wishes in your forthcoming surgery.
Time passes very quickly afterwards and it is well worth it.

Hi there, I am 55 last month and going in less than two weeks, I am currently in menopause so I wont feel any surprises. Right now I just got a whopper of a cold and feel like the devil so I hope it goes away in time, I would hate to have to postpone I think I would faint!! Cant wait to be on the other side, Hugs, Denna
