Anyone on megace 25 days, off 5?

Hello,

I have simple hyperplasia, no atypia, but COPIOUS periods (last one lasted 7 weeks, palm-sized clotting, YUCK!). Doc tried a d&c, but it was incomplete due to large uterus. No chance of ablation (that was the original plan). Doc put me on megace 40mg 2x daily, but told me to take it for 25 days, then off 5 for a period. Anybody else ever heard of this? What am I in for? Been on the megace for maybe 10 weeks, no problems, and I am scared to death of getting my period again. I was flooding every 25 minutes for 12-14 hours a day. I am 38 and was diagnosed in Sept. 2007.

I was on megace same dose too and i loved it .. it worked beter than any thing the dr tried for my adeno . but i took it contiuse for months. when i did come off it there was no problem well the first one was very light . good luck . just with a high does make sure you dont skip a dose!!

Thanks for your reply. I must also say that I LOVE the megace. What's not to love...no evil period, extra energy, and a seemingly decreased appetite. I'm not holding any more water than usual, take vitamins and suppliments including green tea. My doc said I needed a hysterectomy, I don't want a surgery. He said I could put it off for a few months and try the megace, but now I'm just so darn afraid of getting the evil period again. It renders me incompacitated, unable to care for my family, and barely myself.

Crinch, I know this is an older post, but that is exactly how I am. I'm so afraid of bleeding now that even the spotting I've had for the past month has rendered me incapacitated. It is awful. I'm thinking hysterectomy is the way for me to go at this point. I wanted one more child, but how do I do that without bleeding at least a few times while TTC?

The megace has stopped my periods for 3 years now, but now I'm having spotting non stop, and I need something fixed soon.

Doc wants mirena. I know I'll have to bleed on that, and I don't think I can handle it. :-(
