One week post hysterectomy, extremely weak

I was feeling OK yesterday but woke up today feeling EXTREMELY weak.

I don't have a temperature and no bleeding or drainage.

Had cervix and ovaries out.

Is this a normal setback?

Re: One week post-op, extremely weak

I think it is. I'm at 11 days and I hit that bump yesterday. Just too weak for anything but tv watching. I have heard several people say they went through this. I know for myself, I'm not eating enough. I have no appetite.

One week post hysterectomy, extremely weak

Definitely! One week out I had just ditched Percocet and was still very sleepy and sore. You had major abdominal surgery! Roll with it. I had my highest energy in the mornings, so I'd get my shower in and any little chores I could do then.

The trick to recovery, as my dr told me today, is listen to your body. It'll tell you when you've done too much and needs to rest.

Re: One week post-op, extremely weak

I wouldn't even consider it a setback - it's recovery from major surgery with after effects of anesthesia, pain meds and the trauma of surgery itself. A nurse who ran a hysterectomy prep class I attended shared that she'd take a shower, fold a few clothes and then crash for a nap. Just the way it is!

This is one time that it's a-okay to obey that impulse to sleep and do low key activities. So, go to bed early, sleep in, take a nap. My joke "regret" after all the resting was that I wouldn't be tanned or have memories of sipping pina coladas served by a cabana boy at a tiki hut on some tropical beach !
We don't get this down time very often, so take advantage of it. It's what your body needs.
