A Year Later...I'm still tired and cold ! Is it normal ?

My daVinci full hysterectomy and rectocele surgery was Nov. 14th, 2013. I awoke tired and shivering. Had complications, infections, a blood clot, transfusions, then a bleeder that caused me to return to surgery 2 weeks later so Dr could remove more. Literally, had a hysterectomy, went back for seconds. Multiple hospital stays, more infections, contracted C-diff (horrible), more meds, yet it returned two times. Lost 30 lbs. Still cold and shiver-y. Bed bound until March. Still on meds until May 2014. Whole time, I'm fanning my face because of hot flashes while sitting under heated blanket, shivering. I beat the C-diff, off meds, hot flashes curtailed a bit (supplements). I can't sleep nights without a (prescription) pill (bad insomnia). Even with pill, I am often awake ALL NIGHT. I am cold all the time. I wear sweatpants a lot or jeans with plush tights underneath. Layer bra, tank top, LS tee under sweatshirt, at home cover it all in a robe. If I drink anything cold or coolish, I am freezing. My (lifetime normal) temp is between 97.3 and 97.8 Farenheit. I am tired all the time, take a nap even. I wear sweats or flannel to bed WITH GLOVES. My shoes and my boots are fuzzy, plush lambswool and leather. I wear plush knee-high socks 24/7. I drink hot liquids as much as possible. I have gained my weight back plus some. Dr. so far has stated, "it's all normal, give it a year". Well, it's been a year. I have an appt. in January 2015 where we will go over all this again. I will ask him to take blood, check thyroid and white blood cell count. I am stumped. I am sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. So, dear friends, IS this normal ? What do you suggest ? Thank you for reading~

I am so sorry you are having a tough time. It sounds like this has been a tough year on your body. You put me to shame complaining about all my complications at 10 weeks post! It is probably normal to be tired since you have been bed bound for a long time. I would definitely ask to have more things checked like thyroid, as you suggested because being that cold all the time is a little suspicious. I'm with you! Sick and tired of being on one round of meds after another! Glad you have a doc appointment coming up. Maybe she will have some fresh ideas about some of your symptoms. Don't beat yourself up too bad and hang in there!

Not normal. Please keep having tests. There will be a solution.

You have been through A LOT!! It can take a long time to bounce back especially if you have been bed bound for a while. I would certainly get your thyroid checked. Even if the numbers look good you might feel better supplementing it if your dr is willing to try that. Some just go by numbers and that's it. A friend of mine had good numbers for her thyroid but her dr was willing to try giving her thyroid hormone and she felt better. She also like natural thyroid better than synthetic. Hope you get some answers!!

Are you having circulation issues? I would see your general practitioner over these issues. It sounds very uncomfortable and nobody should have to live their lives like that! Keep going to different doctors until you find one that listens to you. You deserve more than the brush off!

Also remember, in addition to above, anemia can cause chills and cold!! You have been thru so much, hugs that all goes well.

Besides the thyroid, have your doc do a test for anemia. Both are simple blood tests, both are simple to medicate if that's what the issue is.

Wow, you have been through a lot. I 2nd those recommending a full thyroid panel screening. Wishing the very best to you that you figure out what the issue is. Please check back in and let us know when you find out.
