Folic acid?

i am wondering if i had a hysterectomy which removed uterus and cervix, do i still need folic acid?

That's a great question to ask your doctor! It depends a lot on why you were taking it to start with.

Women of childbearing age frequently take folic acid (and it is prescirbed for pregnant women) because of research that shows it helps prevent spinal column abnormalities.

Others of us take folic acid because there is research showing that it might help minimize our risk of dysplasia and possibly cervical cancer.

I'm sure there are other reasons why women take folic acid. Much of our food is also supplemented with folic acid, and of course, you can get the natural form (folate) by ingesting it through various vegetables that are high in that.
