Numbness & Tingling

I am 15 days post op and every since I came home I've had this numbness in my stomach and tingling down my right leg. I understand it is from nerve damage during surgery but this tingling is driving me NUTS. It is worse when I sit and lay on my back. Is there any advice out there about how to make the tingling go away so that I can sleep better??

Numbness & Tingling

Sorry I have no advice for you but I do understand how you are feeling.
I still have the belly and leg stuff happening. But my FACE stuff seems to be getting better. Half my nose and one cheek seemed numb when I I touched them or blew my nose. Slowly it is getting better. Hopeing with time so will the rest.
Now if I could just get my butt to feel numb and not be in so much pain from bowel probs I would be happy.

Numbness & Tingling

Hi sorry I don't know either but see your gynae. I am 8 months post TAHBSO and my tum is numb, my friends still have numb tums 12 years on but no pain. I guess you just accept it as a fact. Use net to research and in particular this site - excellent.

Numbness & Tingling

One book I read about discomfort after abdominal surgery suggested that what you're experiencing is fairly common. The recommendation there was -- if it's possible for you -- to sit up on the bed, pillows to support your back, and rub the legs with both hands. The author suggested 5 sets of soft rubs, beginning from the outside hip as far down toward the feet as you can reach, and returning with light touches up the inside of the legs. The idea is that this stimulates the organs in the torso to relax, and when they relax some, nerves in our extremities are more restful. I did this a couple of days, and it helped a lot. It also was just very soothing. I guess if you can't do this for yourself, perhaps try asking someone to help you by giving you these soft rubs. The idea is not a massage (nothing hard on the muscles) but just a soft touch to the skin. I hope this helps you, if you try it!

Cindy - relief is on its way!

The bowel movement (and urinating) discomfort does go away gradually. Its ALMOST pain free for me to have a BM now.
