Surgery scheduled, im confused!

Fibroids, horrific bleeding for weeks on end, I'm anemic, etc. is my short version medical situation...and last Friday I went to my gyn and she ended the visit with her statement "we HAVE to have this TAH done within the next 2 weeks".
So, I have been laying around fatigued, nauseous from the Provera and Iron, waiting for the call I got today...telling me that the soonest they can get me in is October 22nd! No matter how many times I questioned the discrepancy, she kept insisting that it was the soonest the hospital had a surgical date available??? Should I call and insist speaking with my gyn to verify this being so different than what she indicated to me when I saw her?

the 22nd date is about two weeks from today. thats really pretty fast to get a date. i waited 2 months. you can call and ask the dr to doublecheck but she might tell you the two weeks is fine. she might not have any control over when the hospital has the surgical times available. good luck!

I have to agree with dressedupinblue, the additional few days isn't much of a discrepancy. But for your own piece of mind why not call your doctor and ask?

Surgery scheduled, im confused!

Thank you both for responding! I guess I have been caught up with my gyn and medical dr. stressing the urgency due to the low blood count and extensive bleeding and then to get the call that it is 2 weeks before they can get me in leaves me with the question; If my medical state is the urgent matter they indicated, how can it wait another 2 weeks (on top of the 2 weeks this has already been going on) But, tomorrow morning, I will be calling my medical Dr to ask him what he thinks about it all...again, thank you both!!!!

I would look at it as two weeks to get things ready for after surgery and, actually, now you're looking at only around 12 days or so. You'll have a pre-op appt. in there somewhere and before you know it time will have passed and you'll be home and recovering. That is rather quick to get in for surgery I waited a month. Best wishes!

Surgery scheduled, im confused!

I was checked into the hospital directly from my GYN's office and surgery occured within a couple of days. My GYN is my surgeon and my hyster was considered an emergency. However, I was also having heart palps and atrial fibrilation complications from the anemia in addition to the massive bleeding. My blood counts were severely low and my bleeding was exacerbated by my anticoagulation meds. I received immediate transfusions upon arriving at the hospital. After 8 transfusions my blood count was safe enough for me to receive anesthesia with precautions. I had two specialists and a crash team standing by in the OR "just in case."

If your case warranted an earlier surgery date, it would definitely be scheduled earlier with lesser surgeries being moved or postponed to accommodate yours. Trust your doctors, Cindy. They don't seem to be overtly worried about waiting a couple of weeks so you probably shouldn't be either. Relax and rest up before your surgery. Save your energy for your recovery! You will need it.

I think its fine, really they say that as a way to express its urgency. One or two days isn't going to make a difference.

Was your doctor giving you that date because of their schedule? My Ob/Gyn performed my surgery. She asked me when I wanted to have surgery, then checked her available surgery dates at the hospital, then we settled on a date. I would investigate further, if it's the doctor or the hospital schedule that is driving the discrepancy
