HELP !!! Surgery for tomorrow cancelled !

Great.....my docs office called late yesterday and said that they had to reschedule due to my blood not clotting properly. Since I take Aspirin due to my heart condition, and SINCE my doc didn't tell me to stop taking it a while before all of these tests, now I have to wait. Did anyone else go thru this and how long does it take for Aspirin to leave your system?

I have not gone through this sort of thing with asprin but I just wanted to say that I am so sorry that they cancelled your surgery !!! I know from experience, that the waiting is the hardest part. I can only imagine what you must feel like. Please don't get discouraged ! It will get rescheduled and you will finally be on the other side. And shame on that doctor for not telling you ahead of time. My prayers are with you. Keep us posted! A big

I almost had a similar problem. I take vitamins for my eyes, since I am high risk for certain eye diseases, and they contain a high concentration of vitamin E, which is also a blood thinner. Fortunately, I was told early enough that I could get off of these capsules that my surgery did not have to be rescheduled.

It is upsetting to have to go through this waiting period again, but it is good that they postponed the surgery. Going ahead with it could have been disastrous.

I'm not sure how long it will take your blood to regain its clotting ability, but they will likely do the pre-op again just to be sure.

I'm sorry that you've had to be rescheduled. I'm sure that it is a big disappointment. But, I'm happy that it was discovered in time and can help minimize possible complications. I hope that your addtional wait is not too long ( maybe after the hoildays and you can enjoy them ).

I take Excedrin, alot, and my Doctor told me to stop at least 4 days before my surgery. I truly believe that everything happens for a reason, and for a good reason. You may not know it now but I am sure there is a good reason. Maybe your Dr. is not 100% at his best, maybe you are getting a little more time to get something done, maybe there will be unexpected good news coming that you might have missed if in surgery. I know it is hard but go do something nice for yourself tomorrow. Belive this is supposed to happen for a good reason and it will become one.
My TAH is on the 20th, tomorrow I will make homemade cookies for my family to bring to the nurses who will taking care of me. My father did this and he always got extra good care.

I will keep you in my thoughts.

Mine was moved from Dec. 2nd to the 9th for a different reason. But I wouldn't have changed my roomate for the world and was glad it was changed because of that...It will feel weird waiting a little longer, but it will all work out!

When I was taking aspirin as a preventive measure, I had two outpatient surgeries (not near as extensive as a hysterectomy) and was told to stop taking the aspirin at least one week prior to the surgery.

So sorry for the postponement, but better safe than sorry.

Went in, got in their face, and we re-ran the clotting test. It's perfect now, so we're back on for 5:30am. What a lesson to be learned.......docs don't always tell you what you need to know. That's why I'm so glad this site is here to help each other out.
