Four weeks post-op and heavy bleeding ~ anyone else?

Well- I have a question for progress reports for those of us on the same timeline...I've read older, past threads for post-op bleeding and found some 'related answers'...

I've had a relatively uneventful and normal recovery up until my 3rd week when I began to have some spotting, so as I posted previously- I went to my doctor and received silver nitrate because some stitches had probably come undone...Otherwise, the Dr. told me I was doing fine and should be resuming normal activities and he would check me in two more weeks.

Well- much worse- last night after going to a college soccer game (rode in the car for 2 hours there and 2 hours back, didn't drive myself ) and eating dinner out, I came home to bright red blood soaking a pad (sorry for the graphics). Further, I soaked 4 pads throughout the night! And I have not had this type of bleeding at all since surgery...I've noticed it is slowing down and letting up as I've been in bed and off my feet for almost 10 hours. Though my blood pressure is really low-102/86

I'm supposed to go back to work tomorrow part-time and give two presentations. I have to drive 45 minutes there and back (drive myself) and can probably be there and back, do the presentations, and be in bed within 4 hours.

Has anyone else experienced this type of bleeding since Sept. surgeries? Does it come and go? The other posts I read ranged from normal healing to hemorrhaging! Normal activity seems to include walking and driving, but no bending, twisting, lifting, and the only thing I can think that I did was 'jerk suddenly' in the car when another vehicle almost hit our car...

Since the bleeding is letting up, and if it continues to stop as I rest, doesn't that seem to indicate that I don't need to call the Dr. on the weekend and it can wait until Monday? I'm not in unusual pain, just the everyday, after surgery, aches and twinges and no fever....

Thanks in advance for your support and insight!

That muc bleeding is serious. You need to go to the ER.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this.

I agree with ((notsoonenough)) ~ please visit the ER since that amount of bleeding is not normal. You may find that resuming any kind of activity tomorrow starts the bleeding again and it's vital you seek medical advice as soon as possible, and certainly clearance before returning to work.

Will you let us know what happens and how you are? Please take good care!

Birdie,

Thinking of you, praying for you. Hope you received the medical treatment that you needed and that you're on the mend.

Re: Four weeks post-op and heavy bleeding ~ anyone else?

I am four weeks post-op tomorrow. I have not had any heavy bleeding since surgery. Only some light spotting the first couple of weeks. I start to hurt if I'm in the car for more than an hour so I don't know how you handled the car trip. I'm walking 30 minutes or more daily and am getting stronger each day. I still can't sit in a chair upright for over an hour or so and tend to get tired after about a 2 or 3 hour outing. I had a Dr Appointment this morning and she says I'm recovering as scheduled. It is very hard not to lift or do more when you start to feel a little better.

Re: Four weeks post-op and heavy bleeding ~ anyone else?

Thank YOU so much for the good wishes!

Well, I had not had any bleeding at all until 2 days ago (Day 26), and I am 4 weeks post-op today! I haven't lifted anything, bent, twisted, shopped, etc. I have felt so blessed and pampered and actually I'm ready to 'enter the world' again So this weekend's scary, outpouring really wigged me out...

I called the DR on Sunday and had complete bedrest until I saw him on Monday (today- my 4 week date). My bleeding had gone down to just some spotting...some stitches had loosened, but everything was in place (yea!), and he used silver nitrate again...He also started me on some antibiotics, just in case...For some reason, I've lost 10 pounds since surgeries...(not really a bad thing!)

But, the DR says everything should be fine, and I can resume 'normal activities' for now...normal with the restrictions, and sex within 2 more weeks as long as I don't have anymore bleeding. If it happens again, call him, and if I have spotting, slow down again, and rest...

I'm thinking this is the best of all scenarios! I appreciate y'all following up...I was worried, and of course, 'when I heard hoofbeats, I thought zebras, not horses'!

Almost time for my Sleepytime Tea...have a good eveing!

P.S. That makes so much sense about being in the car for longer than an hour too...I will have to keep that in mind as we have another soccer game in Cincy tomorrow and Parent' Weekend in NC this weekend...(3 kids in 3 different colleges!)
